Back up Major

I’ve been following the IGETC path and taking courses towards UCLA’s Business Economics major; however, since I can’t apply for Econ or International Relations as my back up, I want to apply for another major as my back up–yet I have not taken courses that go towards that major. Is having a back up major THAT big of a deal? Is not taking courses for it a big problem? I’d really like to go to UCLA, but it is a big factor if I don’t get into my intended major.

are you TAP certified? if not ,it won’t even matter.

http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_tr/ADM_CCO/tap_alt_mjr.htm

if you are tap certified, you should put your alternative major as math/econ. high acceptance rate and similar pre-req’s as business econ.

I wouldn’t recommend this unless you are certain you think you can switch once you get in. If you don’t like math you are going to suck. It has a 7 UD math classes, and some of them are very “proofy”. Additionally, the degree requires math-based econ classes for the most part.

What career are you aiming for? With some careers you can go to any UC and pretty much land the same job and pay.
