My DREAM school is Villanova, but today I just received my ACT score, and I am really disappointed. I don’t think I’ll be accepted with these scores (regardless if I am Hispanic):

Composite- 27
English- 32
Math- 30
Science-27
Reading- **20/B
Writing- 6 (I am a VERY slow writer)

Is it worth retaking considering my bad reading score? Will the scores arrive in time for the adcoms to see (RD is 01/07/2012)? And if I do retake it, should I take writing?

My GPA is 3.45… so it doesn’t make it any better.

Yes, you really should take the ACT again especially if this was your first time, it will help make up your GPA. Since your other subscores are okay, you can devote more effort on improving writing and reading scores.

With! some schools that require the writing will NOT take the score if it does not contain writing. For reading if you are a slow reader just do 3 passage and guess on the 4th one. If you did good on the 3 passage it will be at least a 24+

For writing just make up stuff and write 2ish page and that will be a 7-8? The readers take approximately 1min for each essay- they look for structure and flow.

And yeah, I’m convinced that I just naturally suck at reading comprehension.

I want to get at least a 24-25 in reading and just improve in all the other sections, because I don’t think there is any hope for me in reading.

Also, should I submit my previous score (27) and then submit the December score?

When is the school deadline? (I also reply to your new topic) If you decide to submit the 27 now then you it would cost 10 dollar. If you are planing to retake it again and the deadline will not be a problem, I would keep it to save 10 dollar in case you improve.

For reading, maybe you should buy a speed reading book to help you read faster? Also there is a technique where you could go directly to the question with a line reference and put a # besides the paragraph. After you finish numbering, read the passage and when you get to the part where you mark finish the paragraph and go straight to the question and answer it. And so on but Please practice this technique first because it will mess up your timing without practice.

The deadline is 01/07/2012. The thing is, what if I hypothetically score less and that score goes to Villanova?

I know I won’t score less, but the thought just scares me.

And it probably is a good idea to get a speed reading book because my problem is speed. I also have a problem spending to much time on a question.
