Bad ACT Writing score but 5 on AP Language test??

I got a 7 on my ACT writing, but I’m not sure how badly it will reflect on my apps since I got a 5 on the AP Lang test…

lol bro the AP lang test was a joke i didnt even take the class or prepare and got a 5.

@hagbardceline So… you didn’t read the books?

@bassguitar we didnt have to bro, i think youre thinking about the lit test. test i took had synthesis essays and persuasion essays and ■■■■

First off, colleges don’t really use AP scores in college decisions, so that AP score won’t “make up for” or “replace” your ACT score. Second, ACT writing looks for different things than what the Lang test is designed to test for. ACT writing is just looking for a well-structured argument with valid points. Stylistically, it doesn’t ask for much. The AP Lang test, however, focuses more on style. Not to mention they require you to write about entire different subjects and entirely different types of essays. And also, you don’t really need to read any books for AP Lang. They’re just used as a study tool, but aren’t mentioned on the test.

A 7 isn’t a bad score. It is in the top 49% of test takers. With how close you are to an 8 though you may want to retake as an 8 puts you in the top 14%. And I bet that 5 does help a bit with how colleges will perceive your 7.

Just consider it but don’t feel like it is a make it or break it part of your application. A 7 will do you just fine.
