Bad AP scores help!!

I’m just gonna cut to the chase here,I’m going to be a senior and have a 3.8 GPA and a 1370 SAT and I took two AP exams so far in high school and they were AP Human Geography and AP Stats. I did horrible on my AP Stats and I got a 1 but my human geography was a 4. I’m really scared that my AP stats test would put colleges off and I was planning on taking 4 AP classes and two SAT subject tests my senior year to balance it out. Can someone tell me if this would be enough to get into a top 50 school.

No need to report the AP tests if you don’t want to. However if your grade in the class was way higher and you didn’t report the AP result that could seem suspicious. It’s not mandatory and you send the scores only if you want credit for the Class/

Personally, I would recommend that you try to take 1 more SAT 1 to get a higher score (1400+).

I am planning on taking the SAT I one or two more times until i get a 1400+ and I had a B- as my overall grade for AP Stats. Would you say that I would still be able to get into a top 50 college with this?

It’s possible. The GPA (if UW) isn’t that bad. You might be a high match/low reach for Boston University with your current statistics. Northeastern would be another possibility. That is if you like Boston. If the SAT is 1400+ consider those schools. If you prefer warmer weather, the University of Miami is a Top 40 school and your stats are not that far off.

Of course ECs count as well, so make sure you have good ones that your are dedicated to.

So you’re saying that as long as everything else is strong I can hide the 1 on that AP Stats test and not be affected that much by it?

I would not call it ‘hiding it.’ You are under no obligation to submit any AP scores. It’s up to the colleges to determine why you didn’t want to submit AP scores.

From what I’ve experienced, your AP exam score doesn’t affect your college admissions chances, it’s more about receiving the college credit. For me, when I sent my AP Calc BC, Bio, Psych, and US History scores to my university, they just gave me credit for calc, psych, and us history but not bio because I got a 3 on that exam.

Since you’ll be a senior, I would definitely talk to your counselor and see what that 1 on the stats exam will do to your admissions chances. Also, remember that to get into a top 50 school, you’ll need a nice array of EC’s that hopefully relevant to what you want to major in. On a side note, if you don’t get in to the school you want, it won’t kill you, in fact, if you go to a state school, you could be the big fish in a small pond and if you’re still willing to go to a big-name school, I would say go for it.

For now, enjoy the rest of your high school career. Hope this helped and best of luck!

You typically don’t submit AP scores until after you have been accepted and commited to a college. They aren’t something that you submit during your application.
