Bad Freshman Year Grades

Hey Guys,
So I go to a very rigorous private high school and my middle school left me horrifically unprepared for this school so freshman year I got horrible grades. I am a junior now and my GPA is a 3.24 because of my horrible freshman year grades even though I have really picked it up. Anyway, I was wondering what are proper reaches and safeties for someone whose GPA is very low mainly because of freshman year grades. Someone please help me hahaha

We need an SAT or ACT score to give you some reaches and safeties.

Test scores? Home State? How much can you and your family afford? Intended major? Geographic location? Private/Public/Large/Small/Urban/Rural?

Why are you laughing? Aside from that, some schools don’t consider freshman year for the reasons you state-it can be a steep learning curve for students. I don’t know which schools those are but I mention that with the hope others will supply the specific schools.

The UCs (doubtful the OP is from CA since everyone there knows that) and Princeton.

Take AP classes and get a weighted GPA!! I got a 2.8 freshman year but now my GPA is 3.8. Also, some AP teachers change your nonweighted grade based on your AP test score.

CMU and Emory don’t consider freshmen grades. Neither does McGill

What’s your GPA excluding your freshman year? What are your test scores?

the UCs should be fine reaches but it depends on ur test scores and ECs. and definitely take honor or AP classes!
you would need around 3.8 GPA for Emory but if you pull ur grades up to around 3.6 you can get into Emory’s Oxford college.

And you decided its better to ask here instead of the counselors at your private school?
