Bad Freshmen Year Grades Special Case

So, during my freshmen year of high school I was admitted into one of the top 5 high schools in the country. I stayed ther for only a year but my grades in math and science were bad (C+ and B-) as a result combined with my other grades I received a GPA of 2.95 for my freshmen UW GPA and 3.15 GPA weighted.

I now attend my local base high school where I have created a club that circles around futuristic and critical thinking;I am also a part of many after school extra curricular and perform lots of service work. I am now in my sophmore year of high school and all my grades are around a B --> A range for the overall year. If I get good grades for my junior year and continue on the same path in terms of extra curriculars and service work what are my chances of getting into a top college? This is assuming that I get a good SAT and other standardized test scores.

Sorry B- for the second letter grade

Depends on which top college and what the grades and test scores are. If you take like 4-6 APs and get A’s in them to bring up your GPA and get a 2200+ SAT then its possible.

Ideally I would like to attend Carnegie Mellon SCS (long shot) but I am looking at other options including John Hopkins, and maybe PolyTech

It’s possible with good grades and high scores. Keep working hard!! Also look at some public schools like U Mich., UNC Chapel Hill and University of Illinois at Urbana Champagne.

Thanks for the confidence and motivation boost.

How much would this affect me getting into an engineering school? I am mainly interested in robotics and programming?

All the schools I listed have good or great comp. sci programs and would set you up nicely for a good engineering school.
