Bad gpa freshmen year, and better gpa later on?

Hi, I’m becoming sophomore next quarter, and my current gpa for freshmen year is 3.4. I want to go to medical school and I heard that average gpa is around 3.7. During my freshmen year, I had troubles with CAT (sixth writing) and I got B’s throughout the year. If I do better later on and raise my gpa, can I still go to prestigious medical school? Also I got credits for my Bild and Chem class, but had to take it again for medical school prerequisite. I heard from my friends that it doesnt go into my gpa…but does it still show up on my transcript with a letter grade?
Thanks

yeah, they’ll still show up on your transcript.

You’ll be fine. Do better in the coming quarters.

The average is actually a 3.6 for the UCSD students who applied and got in, for matriculation this fall 08. No worries.

Average gpa for med schools is not 3.7… It is 3.5 - 3.6. So chill out, you only have a few more points to raise it up to.
