Pateta00:

Duke–reach
Emory–reach
Rice–reach
U of georgia–slight reach
wash university in st louis–reach
ithaca college–match to slight reach
CSU fullerton–safe match
university of chicago–reach
Depaul university–match

Your test scores are great, but your grades are less than what is required for most of these schools (on the list above you have 5 schools ranked in the top 20 in the US–and these schools are very tough for any student to get into). You should consider schools slightly lower down the “toughness” scale–but still with good weather locations. I suggest colleges like the other Cal State Universities, University of South Florida, Univ of Central Florida, Univ of Maryland, Indiana University, Univ of Oregon, Santa Clara University, and maybe even Univ of Arizona, Arizona State, and American University (in Washington, D.C.).

P.S. I used to be married to a carioca (that’s a Rio de Janeiro native for you non-Brasilians)–and she spoke five languages (same four as you plus Italian). She worked for the Olympics in Los Angeles in 1984 as a translator.
In my humble opinion, we need more Brasilians here in the US to keep things “happening” and upbeat.

Note: I’m using the portuguese spelling of Brazil above since that is the spelling Brasilians prefer.

Hello Calcruzer!! Thank you for you r advices… I knew my gpa would be a negative thing in my curriculum.
I visited depaul last week really liked but not sure if it’s worth 30.000$ a year. What do you guys think?University of Chicago is just amazing i loved it but i knew my chances would be very low…tha same for Wash , rice, duke…but university of georgia was a surprise for me i thought it would be a safe match for me…anyway i will look at those universities you’ve mentioned.
I friend of mine who studies in Columbia university , told me to check CUNY city college and baruk …it would be cheaper and maybe from there i could transfer to a university that i like…what do you guys think of that?
Another question… do you think it would make any difference to take ACT?
I’ve also applied to Oxford university ( well miracles happen sometimes)…

anyone?Guys…

???

no chance at uchi, duke, rice, wustl.

What does that mean?

cal state fullerton sticks out on your list like a sore thumb. are you from orange county? as stated above don’t waste your time and money at elites like the university of chicago; you are in the bottom percentile of applicants there. depaul is okay but a bit pricey for what you get. you get a great deal at any of the cal states if you live there, and you could match up reasonably well in the bottom three of the UC system. the arizona and nevada publics probably would be matches as well but be forewarned about out of state tuition.

oxford? what kind of controlled substance are you on?

hello guys !!
1:Dirt McGirt i did 3 years fo mechanical eng. means that i studied mechanical engineer for 3 years , in a university in Brazil
2- drj, i’m not from orange county , i’m from Brazil
3-oxford? what kind of controlled substance are you on? well you know how it is , at least i will have a letter from oxford university…

hummm…
Duke–reach
Emory–reach
Rice–reach
U of georgia–slight reach
wash university in st louis–reach
ithaca college–match to slight reach
CSU fullerton–safe match
university of chicago–reach
Depaul university–match

i’m been talking to some professor and according to them:
duke:no
emory:60% yes
WUSTL:the same emory
U of georgia :match(because applying as international)
CSU:safe match
CUNY city college:safe match
Depaul:Safe match
University of chicago :no
ithaca college:no
Oxford:no

valid point. some schools will drop admissions criteria for the huge cash advantage accrued from international students. did not know emory was in this group but presume you are correct on this. just for pure quality this would be a good one unless you are not into humidity. if weather becomes more important, particularly if you are into the coastal scene like back home then you have tons of choices in the golden state–and most of them are very, very good.
