I’m a junior and I get my first semester report card tomorrow- I’m a B-B+ student, always have been since Freshman year. But I’m actually failing physics this first semester and it’s really worrying me because my chances of getting into a good university are a 0 now.

It’s stressing me out so much, but physics is actually a senior level class in most high schools in NY and I know that doesn’t matter to colleges because either way I’m failing!!

I take 2 additional AP classes, a non-mandatory language class and my EC’s are pretty great

I take the SAT’s next year but I have been looking at colleges- Boston University, CSU, Hofstra, Georgetown (I know they are all huge reaches!!)

Any advice and/or good college recommendations for these okay grades??? Help!! THANKS!

Physics is a senior level class - True, but majority of students take their physics class in junior year. Just try your best(Go to extra help/Get a review book, etc) and show upward trend.

CSus are a really poor choice for a NY State student who wants to go to med school or into the health profession because 1° it’ll cost you twice what the SUNYs cost for lower quality 2° you’ll need that money to go to med school (no financial aid there) 3° there are hundreds of better schools that you can get into and get financial aif for 4°CSus are severely impacted, you wouldn’t be able to get into the classes you need and you wouldn’t be able to get recommendations…

You should try to take the SAT in the Spring, and try and take SAT subjects in June when the subjects are still fresh in your mind (just pick whatever two subjects are your best). Although these are not compulsory everywhere, they’d enhance your application at schools that have holistic admissions. Then study through the summer to raise your score and get an idea of where you could get in, and take the SAT in the Fall again. Don’t wait till Fall Senior year to take the SAT!

Look into these schools: Elmira, Adelphi, Alfred, Bryant, Caldwell, Goucher, McDaniel, Quinnipiac, St Lawrence (NY), Wells, Washington&jefferson
If you can strike out a little further, look at Albion, Barry, Bradley, Carroll (MT), Chapman (CA), St Mike’s (VT), Coe, Cornell (IA), De Paul (IL), Earlham, Eckerd (FL), Flagler (FL), Hiram (OH), Lake Forest, Lawrence (WI), U redlands (CA), Whittier (CA).

Thank you so much!! By the way, just got my report card for first marking period. Final average is an 89 (B+) although that physics grade is a 60. I can definitely raise these grades to a 90+ by the end of the first semester, but if anyone has any other suggestions please help me out!!
