I had my interview a couple of days ago. The guy was a pediatrician, and when I got there, he made me wait for over 45 min… When he finally saw me, he asked me 1 question: Why do you want to go to Cornell… I responded with some very good reasons. I then expected him to ask me about school and whatnot… but the next question was What questiosn do you ahve for me? This was very unexpected. I mean i had 2-3 questions in mind but I was expecting to ask them at the end. 2 min into the interview he already was askin if i had any questions. So i asked him 3 questions…and at the end of each answer he said “Next Question”. after about 7 questions I couldn;t think of anymore and i just was there thinking while he looked at me… Finally I said well Thats it no more questions and He got up shook my hand and I left his office. Considering also that the drive to get to his office was over half an hour I was very dissapointed… Im kind of getting the feeling that he will write a bad report to Cornell, but Im kind of madd he didnt even give me a chance to talk he jsut asked if i had any questions.

Since it’s intended to be informational and not evaluative, don’t worry. But I would write a letter to the admissions office and/or the alumni network (abbreviated CAAAN) and report him as a crappy interviewer. Part of his job is to sell Cornell to you and clearly he didn’t give a very good impression.

Sounds to me like he didn’t do much in the way to prepare for the interview. Or perhaps he had an extremely busy or unpleasant day. He could have apologized, however.

It sounds like you were polite and responsive. You probably did fine.

There are so many of these threads, all of which contain the same answer.

The point of the interview is for you to ask questions. He may ask a little bit to get things going, but the interview is more accurately a “1 on 1 general information session” to help you feel out the personality and atmosphere of cornell. However, you seem to have done just fine given the situation.

I would say that, as you suspect, it wasn’t a very good interview. However, it’s no fault of yours, it’s just that the interview wasn’t very productive. However, it won’t affect your chances because you say you answered his questions well, and that you did have a few good questions for him. Either way the interview is almost completely inconsequential in admissions.

He doesn’t sound like he did his job of interviewing you very well. Don’t worry, cornell is way cooler than some overworked pediatrician. Come visit to get a more accurate impression of how we do in ithaca :D
