Hi, I wanted to know from anyone who has gone through the admissions process at Cornell or the UC system what they would say my chances are for admission at these selective schools. I currently have a 2050 SAT but will take it once more. Ive been studying and my average is 2120 now so I should score higher this time around. I am a straight A student in 4 AP classes and one architecture class. I play piano and play soccer for my HS team, and I’m a part of the soccer club. I was a straight A student sophomore year too, but mid-sophomore year my mother survived a brain aneurysm which took a toll on our entire family. That summer into all of Junior year I was driving my mother places because she had lost partial vision and could not drive anymore as well as monitoring my sisters much more and taking over many of her roles. Needless to say, it was a stressful period for us, especially myself, and my grades suffered. I got mainly Cs and Bs in all but one AP classes, and I’m afraid admission officers will simply toss my app aside because my grades don’t make the cut. Do you think this will happen, or are admissions lenient to people who go through a rough patch like I did?
