I am planning to do 5 AP Self-Study. The following are:

Micro
Macro
Psychology
Environmental Science
Human Geography

Altogether I have about 1500 pages of information left to learn. I have spring break coming up.
The score I need are 3’s minimum.
I just recently started studying for Environmental and HU Geo. How bad of a position is this?

I am also taking a basic economics class to help me. Planning to finish environmental and economics over the break. (7 days)

1 chapter takes me so long for rewritting everything as notes, this isn’t the best way to do things so I am just going to read over once and highlight important stuff after doing the practice test at the end and going to the parts where I screwed up and strictly memorizing those.
-HUGEO: Just memorize the key terms at the end and then read the chapter and do the test.

Any ideas or tips on how I fair as of right now? How to get the chapters done faster etc…?

Wow, a clone of me! I am going to self-study all of those courses, too, but I am delaying most until next year.

However, I am doing Human Geo this year (and also World History. if ANYONE out there hsas any advice, please post it in “The Official 2009 AP World History thread”). Since geography is a subject that I truly love dearly, I am going a little psycho on studying, and I am taking detailed notes on each chapter in my KAPLAN guide (you might be better off going with Barron’s, but my friend, who is doing the same course, got the Barron’s book, and I truly felt that it was poorly set-up and the writing style was rather annoying and unreadable. The Kaplan Human Geo guide is very large, and I truly think that it covers the topic in depth, despite the company’s bad rep. on these boards)

However, Human Geo is not rocket science, and it IS relatively easy. I also personally think it’s a lot of fun (yes, I’m a nerd) Just make sure you read the prep book thoroughly, and fully understand all topics covered.

For the other courses you mentioned: I really don’t know. I am going to start at the beginning of the next school year with all of the courses you listed plus Statistics, so I’ll be watching this thread closely. Good Luck!

I’m doing Hu Geo, Psych, and Envi sci as self studies too. I started late, about a month ago.

Human geo i’m just reading and highlighting as fast as i can. I’m using Rubenstein’s Human Geo book. I’ll do the prep book over spring break.

Psych, i’m reading the textbook by Myers but it’s too long - there’s no way i’m going to finish. I think i’m just going to do 2 prep books instead.

Envi sci is my last priority. I’ll probably skim through the textbook and do the prep book. At this point i’m not sure how far I’ll get…

Well, I wouldn’t need tips if I started right at the beginning of te year. I would have finished on time if I did not put it off til now. I need tips on how to get through things faster. Other than that I am very educated in the area of retention, but not fast reading and comprehending.

Ok my plan is the following:
Enviro is main priority with: Smartypants and PR Will finish this by the 30th hopefully.
The spring break I am going to do Micro/Macro:5steps5 and then psych. In April 3rd week and so on review all of the above and add in HU Geo w/ barrons.

IMO, psych should be first priority. It’s pretty long and filled with vocabulary. Human geography is a short one, so it shouldn’t be a big deal. Envi sci is rumored to be pretty easy, so I would think you should do econ first. [These are tips, i’ve never taken any AP’s before :)]

Psychology… I started and I lost the motion so might as well start with enviro. science because it is basically a review so I can get some confidence as I go. Definitely econ. is the best to go with first and that is what I am doing too!

My advice: buy the Kaplan book on Psychology. Is it the best book for AP Psychology? Maybe, maybe not. Is it extremely short and easy to cover in desperate situations? Yes. And perhaps, it’s not the best book and it doesn’t give you the most detailed information, but it’ll definitely get you a 3 or more which is what you want, so buy it.

Why are you self-studying 5 APs and aiming for 3? Wouldn’t it be better if you narrowed your list down to 2 or 3 and get 4 or higher on the exams? Many good colleges aren’t giving credit for AP Human Geography regardless of score.

Hey Immortalix, why don’t colleges offer credit for AP human Geo? Also, specifically, which colleges do not offer credit for this course? It would be a huge help to know this info.
