I’m applying for the Spring semester. I have a 4.0 GPA, 4.44 weighted. I have good extracurricular activities and I’m very confident about my essay. I have many fantastic things going for me. The only problem is that I made a 900 on the SAT. 500 C.R. and 400 Math. I have a low score because of issues with anxiety and other mental problems that I’ve been in and out of the hospital for. I had a terrible relapse around test day. I mention this in my essay about overcoming mental illness and I’m using the personal statement to furhter explain how this affected my score. I’m applying to College of Charleston, and I was just wondering if they would overlook this score because of my other academic records and explanation.

Have you tried a retest? If you can’t for whatever reason, I’m sure they will understand.

Perhaps you would do better on the ACT. It has score choice, unlike the SAT, and less tricky questions. This might reduce your anxiety on test day and yield a better score. If you do better on it, you need not report the SAT at all.
