Bad Second Semester of Junior Year

Coming into junior year I carried a ~3.8 GPA. This year I have taken AP Calculus AB, AP Biology, AP Spanish and AP English Composition. My first semester was fine and I managed to get all As. However, for whatever reason, my academic focus waivered this second semester and I will be ending my junior year on a sour note. I will finish with 4 As 2 Bs and 1 C. The C is in AP Calculus, The two Bs are in AP English and AP Bio. This doesn’t help as I plan on applying to Stanford REA by November 1st this coming Fall. Will it look bad if I have consistently received good grades until my final semester before applying?
My test scores don’t really help either. I plan on taking both the SAT and ACT one more time.

SAT: 2040
ACT: 29
SAT IIs: Math II: 610 Biology M: 610
It looks like I will be applying REA with a final GPA of around 3.9

So, I all I want to know is that with these mediocre statistics, will I just be passed over in the admissions process or do I still have a chance at consideration?

I didn’t study for my subject tests at all… and I am not sure if I can take them again before the REA deadline

If you are unhooked, I would say your stats will definitely hurt you.

I’m a legacy. Does that count as a hook?

Why are you set on applying early? With your stats, it would be a much better idea to wait until the regular decision deadline. With the extra time, you could demonstrate an upward trend with your 1st semester grades, and you could work on improving your SAT and SAT II scores. Being a legacy will help a little, but unless you have AMAZING EC’s, applying early with these numbers doesn’t seem promising.

My guess is that you would be passed over in the admission process. Stanford receives far too many strong applicants to accept those who let their “academic focus waiver.”
