I have heard that colleges want to see an upward trend but with I have a bad sophomore year?
9th-3.65
10th-3.45
11th-3.85

As long as you improved immensely over time – which it looks like you might have – and finish off strong, you should be pretty much okay. I just hope you’ve kept your GPA up since junior year.

EDIT: ohh forgot to mention I had a pretty sucky freshman year, got my grades way up, and somehow managed to get into Yale. Good luck, ivyguy!

I had a terrible sophomore year. I was really depressed, and for whatever reason, I figured homework and studying were pointless. So I let myself earn several B’s, effectively killing my GPA and class rank. Fortunately, I confronted my issues to ensure that they will not affect me as severely in the future. I got back on track junior year, and I am pleased to say that I will be going to Brown next year! So don’t give up hope. You still have a great chance at wherever you want to go.

it all depends on your situation…

say your grades fell because you stopped studying as a way to get back at your billion dollar parents for refusing to pay off the damage you caused when you went to mexico last spring break with all your other rich friends…that would be inexcusable

but on the other hand, if you’re someone living in an inner city apartment and when your dad died, you had to take a job to help your seamstress mom pay the rent…now that’s excusable, and unique, and awe-inspiring, and probably a ticket in if you have great recs, essays, and ecs

basically…it depends, was there a reason? or was it you just being lazy/not comprehending the material? if it’s one of the latter… you’re in a lot of trouble…

Mz, I’d agree, except if you tell Yale you have billionaire parents, you’re getting in, regardless of how your grades fell in sophomore year. The Law of Sines, baby. Or maybe not so much, but you catch my drift.

Uhhh actually sirwonkalus, I belive that was the Law of Cosines. Get your facts straight.

Maybe you should get your facts straight Sprezzatura, because that in fact was NOT the Law of Cosines, but the Second Law of Thermodynamics. So there. I SAID GOOD DAY!

Sophomore year I took spanish 3 and 4, and spanish is not my best subject (one C and 3 Bs) and in English I had an insane teacher and got two Bs, and on top of that I was taking 4 college classes (made As in all) but it took up a lot of time. I guess I don’t really have a good excuse.

lol sirwonk. i love it when i find someone with a sense of humor similar to mine. some people don’t understand it and get offended lol.

funkyspoon, If you don’t mind, what are your stats and what kind of grades did you have in freshman and sophmore year? Thanks!
