My Son’s Housing for his internship just fell through. He is going to be at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore from THIS WEEKEND till early Aug. Anything safe around the Med Ctr or University would be best but he has a car and any nearby suggestions would be welcome.

Because schools are out, and JH is reconstructing the Hospital Dorms, he is having a very hard time finding a room or short sublet. Great Kid, 21, in town to study. He is Heading to Baltimore this weekend no matter what so… Any Ideas? Feel Free to PM me…

Craigslist, craigslist, craigslist… Does he have a friend or a student from his school living there that he can crash with until he finds something?

Yep - Looking at Craigslist now but feels a little creepy to send the kid off with just Craigslist. Hasn’t been able to find friends who are home for the Summer in Baltimore and his fraternity (SigEp) had older phone numbers for the local brothers. If all else fails He will just get in the car and figure it out when he gets to Baltimore (He will figure it out)…

Second the checking other colleges. Sometimes frat houses rent rooms in the summer. I will, ask SIL where niece is staying during her time at Hopkins this summer.

Tom worse comes to worse, I have a guest room he can crash in till he finds somethin! Live in Pasadena, south of Baltimore. In the mean time. I will ask a Hopkins student I know if he has any friends that have apartments in the area. Also, contact the school of medicine and hospital to see if they have any leads.

Here are the two suggestions from my SIL: McElderry House and Blue Door B&B. Mc Elderry has a website. The other one probably does too, but I did not look.

My S had DC housing that fell through, went to Craigs list, emailed a zillion places, and yes, it eventually worked out, after a number of false attempts, non responses, etc. Post on housing wanted, since his need is immediate, and keep going even if folks don’t respond. CL is it, for many people, and he has a great place! D too, on the opposite side of the country. For the short term, air b n b dot Com would have something for a few nights for less than a hotel.

My Son has been very busy following up on all the suggestions. Because new sublets come up daily he is going back over the online lists, and has made contacts with the local schools housing departments.

vlines - what a sweet sweet offer, thank you for the peace of mind but I’m sure hoping that “worse doesn’t come to worse”. It’s funny how this site always brings out parent to parent feel of contributing so much to each other, Thanks Again…

He is heading up on Saturday and will be busy re-emailing and calling places today.
I’ll let you know if he finds something or is just heading out… Thanks Again and feel free to keep the thoughts coming… Tom

Thanks for asking, and everyone for the great suggestions. He drove to Baltimore today, looked at a few places, choose one. Hope it works out, but I think the landlady is iffy. Oh Well, at least he has a safe place to sleep. As long as its safe and doesn’t get in the way of the internship it should be OK. Too bad though because I was hoping for more than just OK.

Well, there are a couple of us who are close to Baltimore. I am just north and my next door neighbor runs a lab at Hopkins,so if there are problems, we can help.

We sent our son off to a distant city for work last week. Although expensive, we put him up in the local school’s dorms. At least we know he’s in a safe place. If all else fails, I would check out any of the local colleges in the Baltimore area.
