<p>Im a community college student in CA. I am going to be a psychology major. Was wondering which school is better or school you reccomend UC Santa Cruz vs u of Minnesota? Also I have a 3.5 and wanted to know if I could get into either of these schools with that Gpa?</p>
<p>[University</a> of California: StatFinder](<a href=“http://statfinder.ucop.edu%5DUniversity”>http://statfinder.ucop.edu) indicates that for 2008-2009 (latest year it has), UCSC admissions was pretty likely (though not certain) for transfer applicants with GPAs as low as 2.8, although computer science and engineering appeared to be more difficult (probably GPA around a 3.2 to 3.4 or higher for high likelihood of admission, although there was some likelihood at lower GPA levels).</p>
<p>However, admissions may have gotten more competitive since then. Also, even the highest GPA ranges had admit rates that were not 100%, so there is likely some holistic evaluation that make admission not completely predictable.</p>
<p>“Better” may depend on your major and net cost after non-loan financial aid.</p>

<p>Looking at various ranking guides, U of Minnesota often appears in the top ten for undergraduate psychology majors, while UCSC doesn’t appear at all. So I’d say in terms of academics, Minnesota wins. But as ucbalumnus noted, there are a lot of other factors to include.

<p>Don’t forget to take into account school culture and political leanings. The two schools are almost polar opposites from that perspective. Also, where do you want to work? How much cold weather can you take? Again, the two schools are very different.</p>
<p>I would think Minnesota.</p>
<p>Have you lived in CA your whole life. College is a great time to explore other parts of the country, so from that perspective, Minnesota wins. That said, I would disagree with Osakadad that U Minn and UCSC are "polar opposites when it comes to political leanings. Both are liberal.</p>
