I don’t want to major in Music, but I would definitely like to continue partcipiating in the band if I got to Princeton. Not the Marching Band…but concert band/wind ensemble.
Does Princeton have these? If so, where can I find information?

Also…do you receive a grade in these band classes? Does grade deflation apply here too?

Did you try googling “Princeton marching band?” This from Wikipedia:

“The Princeton University Band serves as the marching band and pep band of Princeton University. Like most other Ivy League bands, it is a scramble band. To members and fans, it is often known as the PUB (pronounced Pea You Bee) or simply The Band. Many alumni refer to it as the Tiger Band.”

The Princeton Marching Band (PUB?) is great and fun…but I’ve heard it’s not for all serious musicians. But it’s fun if you like playing at games and all that. Just watch the videos on their website. Very amusing.

We have the Wind Ensemble, Sinfonia (I think that’s how it’s spelled?), and the Orchestra. (The Orchestra is the most competitive / hardcore.) They’re student groups, not classes.

@ivymania: I’m actually in the wind ensemble, and it’s quite enjoyable overall. Keep in mind: it’s an open group, so anyone who wants to join is free to. That said, anyone who worked hard enough to get in here is bound to be pretty good at whatever instrument they chose, and it shows in the playing. We’re entirely student run, although we do pay a conductor (a member of the Philly Pops) to come to work with us. It is much more relaxed than the orchestra, which is (for many instruments) extremely difficult to get into. We’re always in need of more low brass/low woodwind players, but, really, anyone is welcome!
