Band or AP Environmental Science?

I’m a freshman, next year I’ll be a sophomore. My school schedule is really filled for next year, and I’ll already be taking Accelerated Chemistry next year, but in addition, would you recommend that I also get in a year of AP Environmental Science? I would like to do it, because it always gets rave reviews by people who take it, and the teacher is the greatest (he’s my Biology teacher this year). the issue I am facing is that if I do, I will have to give up band, something I don’t really want to do. If I don’t do AP Environment this year, I can do it later as a junior or senior, but even then, I’d still have to give up a year of band at some point, or I’d probably end up not taking it. My other plans were to do AP Physics in Junior year, and AP Biology and AP Chemistry in Senior year (I don’t have to take social studies senior year, so I’d still have enough time in the day to do band). I also think that if I give up a whole year of band, I’d come back junior year not remembering anything, but I could always get private lessons for this.

So which should I take? Also, would colleges rather see that I play an instrument?

They want to see you do what you love and have passion in. So in this scenario, stay with band.

mike my son had a similiar choice as a senior this year .he needed one more elective course in architecture to get a certificate degree. however if he took the arch course it would have been impossible to take AP environmental. His GC strongly felt he should take the AP env although it meant foregoing the arch degree something he worked hard on all four years. the GC felt strongly that in the end the colleges care more about the AP class than any other factors. It is a tough call when a student has a passion for something and in many ways i feel it is counterproductive. However in the end we all feel my son made the correct decision. Enrolling in the AP Env class gave him one more high level class dding to a strong senior schedule…all this said if you can stay in band and taking the course next year or take one of the courses as an IndS I would say stay in band…
