Band Question!

how should i put band down on my apps? marching band’s about 5 months out of the year but during that time we rehearse alot more than during concert season (november through may). should i put marching and concert band as two separate activities? i know people that have different combinations of band type stuff, like only concert band, colorguard and concert band, etc. help please?

Marching Band and Concert Band are two different activities.

I put them separately on my applications. When performing college searches, Marching Band and Concert Band are usually distinguished from one another, as extracurricular activities offered. So, it makes sense to separate them on the application.

thanks :)

i thought so, but i wasn’t sure about it.

Well, my marching band and concert band are combined (during the same period, but during the fall and spring we spend a few weeks on marching music), so I listed them together. My main reason for doing this is because I play two instruments, one for concert season and one for marching, or I would’ve just written concert band and left it at that. I suppose I could have listed them separate, but I uploaded an Additional Info sheet and listed all my music activities because there were a handful and wouldn’t all fit.

marching band and concert band are separate definitely.

Marching Band for me was a fall “sport,” whereas Concert Band was a class… so that’s also why I listed them separately.
