During my application process I faced many problems since our system is a bit different from the American one. However, I got a lot of help during the process from various sources and it is time I gave back. If any students from Bangladesh comes upon this thread, feel free to post on this thread (or send me a message).

Good luck to everyone hoping to be part of class of 2018!

Thank you for your post. Being a Bangladeshi,we are proud of you as you could get selection in a renown ivy league University. I will also planning to apply to Upenn and hence request you to kindly put your states like “Official University of Pennsylvania Class of 2017 RD Results Thread, Stats ONLY”. If you do so, we can have some valuable lesson from you. Wish you a happy and enjoyable stay at Upenn. With thanks and regards.

Bhaiia, if you provide me some advice regarding admission in Upenn, it will be useful for me. I want need based aid as my parents cannot afford to provide cost of study at Upenn. Please throw some light about it also. Overall please advice me regarding admission in U.S.A Universities. Hope, you will be kind enough to spend some time for me. With thanks and regards.

I am from BD and am really interested in U Penn. While I would just about anything to get into U Penn, financial aid is also a huge factor for me. What are the chances of getting accepted with such generous aid ? Will applying ED help ?
thank you

Sorry I don’t check this forum as much while I have classes or homework so posting replies pretty late.

First, admission in Penn is pretty difficult, but ED makes it significantly easier. If you’re interested in engineering or college, the acceptance rate in ED is relatively higher and is your best bet. But, before applying ED make sure you KNOW Penn is where you want to be. However, if the financial aid they provide isn’t sufficient, you can bargain and even turn them down (this I am pretty sure about, but I will ask around some more).

As for aid, Penn doesn’t provide merit based, but does provide financial aid, BUT, it is not need blind to international students. Generous aid means lower acceptance chance, so ED is better. This means that it does decrease your chances of acceptance. However, I am certain that is the case for most universities anyways. SO, you need to be a strong candidate.

Admission on USA universities is pretty much based on your SAT, GPA, ECA and essay, along with some more less significant factors. If financial aid is a must, I would suggest checking up on specific universities as not all provide it.

Oh, on a side note, if accepted, more often than not Penn provides the aid you need. So apply ED with aid, and if you’re in, they will most likely give you the aid as well.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any further questions!

This is correct. If you are accepted ED but the financial aid award is insufficient, you can try to get them to increase the award or, barring that, decline the offer of admission.

tahmidshahriar. Yes, we will call you tahmid Bhaiia. Tahmid name is really lucky and became renown this year. For class of 2017, only 3 male students got selected in IVY schools from Bangladesh and all 3 are Tahmid.

Tahmid Shahriar in UPenn - Engineering with No Aid.
Tahmid Munat in Columbia - Electrical Engineering with part Aid.
Syed Tahmid Mahbub in Cornell - Electrical and Computer Engineering(ECE) with full Aid.
I want to be as lucky as those 3 talented seniors/brothers.
With thanks and regards.

Applied RD,
2220 SAT I, 2330 SAT II (Math, Chem, Physics).
All As in my O’levels and 90%+ average in my school which graded 90% as the A*
3A* 1A A’levels

ECs weren’t anything fancy, I had basic ones like volunteering and debate club. Nothing that stood out. I would say my Penn essay was the best essay I wrote among all my applications and that helped.

Out of curiosity, are you aiming for Harvard or in Harvard?
