Bank of America

For MHC students who opened a Bank of America, what is needed to open a Bank of America account? My dad told me that I might have to show them my Passport and student ID in order to open up a Bank of America account. I have to do work-study and will have to deposit in my check, but first, I must open up a Bank of America account.

Another question is how far is the Bank of America location from South Hadley (Mount Holyoke College Campus)? Is it convienent to go to Bank of America from campus? Is it worth it to open up a bank account there for work-study and other stuff?

Any picture ID will do. You don’t need a MHC ID for a student account. Banks in the 5 college area are used to incoming students not having an ID before the need for a bank account.

BofA is 1.5 miles away. Not a walk I’d like to take in the winter.

There’s PeoplesBank across College Street in the Village Commons. The BofA ATM is by the bathrooms in the walkout basement of Blanchard. But depending where you are on campus, the PeoplesBank ATM can be as close.

Yes, any picture ID will do, and you’ll obviously need to know your SS number.

BoA will be on campus the first few days of the semester to open accounts for students, so no need to find your way to the bank itself to open the account. Otherwise, yes, the closest banking center is not terribly close. I think there is a $1 bus that runs from MHC to a banking center (in the same shopping center as a Big Y supermarket, a Dunkin Donuts, a Friendly’s, and across the street from a TDBank) on Thursday and Friday nights.

Excellent point. PeopleBank mentioned being on campus too.

Knowing one’s SS number is assumed. Maybe not such a good assumption. ;)

How about the deposit? How much should it be?

When you said that the Bank of America was 1.5 miles away, did you mean the Bank of America on 477 Newton St. South Hadley, MA 01075?

Can you give the exact address of this Bank of America location that you mentioned was 1.5 miles away from MHC. Please respond back as soon as possible. Thank you!

Yes, that’s the one. You should pass it on your way into South Hadley if you’re coming from I-91 via Holyoke.
