banks in new haven

does anyone know if there are pnc banks in New Haven?
any banks with special account features for Yale students?

good question.

my options are basically bank of america and PNC, so it would be nice to know which to pick.

I don’t recall seeing any PNCs in New Haven (I use Bank of America), but I did a quick Google and came up with this URL:

https://www.pnc.com/MapQuest/mqlocator/MapQuestSearchInit

It doesn’t look like there are any PNCs in the area, although this locator gives NJ as the nearest location and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen PNCs in CT before, so I don’t know how accurate it is.

Some more googling yields this:

[PNC Bank Na, New Haven, CT : Reviews and maps - Yahoo! Local](http://local.yahoo.com/info-30122373-pnc-bank-na-new-haven)

Don’t remember seeing it there so don’t know if it’s legit… next time I drive by, I’ll check.

Bank of America is great - I haven’t seen any PNCs around New Haven. BoA has two centers near campus, and even an ATM in Bass Library. They also have free student checking when you also open a savings.

My D opened a free student checking account at Wachovia. It has a branch right on Church street, next to the Yale college campus. D can use her check card to withdraw cash from its ATM 24/7 with no fee. I am going to link my bank account with hers to transfer fund to her account. No fee transferring in, a fee transferring out. So, don’t use the “transfer out” feature, just write a check which is free.

Yeah, I think Bank of America is the most convenient. There’s an ATM also in Durfee’s (I didn’t realize there was one also in Bass Library). So, in terms of easy-to-get-to, I think BoA wins out. I’m sure there’s a bunch of perks that I haven’t looked into yet. I’m opening a CampusEdge checkings account there tomorrow.

My D uses BofA also. Works well for her due to the ATMs in NH and then I can deposit money into her account locally if necessary.

Thinking ahead, Bank of America is also great if you want to study abroad since they have deals with several foreign banks that let you make withdrawals from those banks with absolutely no fees. I used that feature in China last summer and am doing so again this summer and it’s definitely very useful.

Anyone know if there are any Chase or Citibank branches on campus?

^ There aren’t any on campus, but I know that Chase has one on Wall street I believe, a few blocks off campus. I was considering sticking with Chase, but I realized how much easier it would be to just use BoA since it’s literally on campus. So, I semi made the switch.

Thanks drbigboyjoe9505

We setup a joint (D and me) debit checking/savings account with Bank of America. There is a branch on Broadway across the street from the bookstore (parking lot in-between). There is no charge for using the ATM if you have a BA account. I can easily deposit money at our local branch or transfer money on-line from one of our other accounts.
