I have a single and am considering building a little bar in my room. I’ve never done anything remotely like this before, so I would appreciate feedback on a relatively cheap way to build a presentable bar for 3-4 people.

uhhhhhh… good luck with that…

Shouldn’t be too hard to make a rectangular (or if you’ve got the space/skills an L shaped) frame using 2x4’s and then put some particle board on the sides and top. Then paint or if u want use that fake wood-grain wallpaper on the sides and throw down some laminate on the top and you’re all set.

hahahahahaha worst idea ever

Getting caught drinking in the dorms is one thing but hosting a bar is just asking for trouble.

I have friends who did that last year, but they had the huge lounge in Squad (4 people, but much more spacious than the “quad” rooms). Unfortunately, the lounges are no longer rooms but rather study/social rooms with a random piano in them. The “bar” was used for one party, and that’s it.

Meh. Honestly, just get a table and throw some bottles on it. Don’t bother building a bar. By the end of the year, you will most likely just be drinking Five’O’Clock, Popov, or Mohawk followed by Gatorade chaser.

If you do decide to go through with it, I wouldn’t worry about what AzureK said. Drinking in the dorm is drinking in the dorm. They won’t punish you any more because you had a bar. Your liquor will get poured down the drain like everyone else’s and you’ll get written up. End of story. Now if you don’t want your liquor to get poured down the drain, DON’T MAKE A LOT OF NOISE DURING QUIET HOURS. If you can avoid making noise during quiet hours, you will not get in trouble, regardless of how much you drink in your room. Especially the first few weeks of the year, a lot of kids will get in trouble because they are being really drunk and loud late at night as the DPS officers and RAs are making their rounds of the building. I just warned you, don’t make this mistake.

I actually don’t drink. I was hoping to build something where others could sit down and drink whatever. Also to multitask as a counter for work and whatnot.

Everyone drinks in the dorms, but putting a bar in your dorm room is just stupid. get a fake if you wanna go to the bar

lol… wow…

I would suggest you move in before you definitely decide to add extra stuff like this to the dorm.

I think it’s brilliant

After two meeting with the “officer” Jason last semester, I learned to drink outside the dorms.

Officer Jason was quite unpopular. But like I said, you can easily drink in the dorms, just don’t make a ton of noise. Conversation is ok, loud music/tv and yelling isn’t. If you aren’t making noise, nobody has a reason to bother you.
