Barbara Billingsley (Leave it to Beaver's mom) dies

I am feeling old again. We keep losing anchors to our childhood. Her jive scene in “airplane” was classic! RIP, Barbara [Barbara Billingsley Dies | TMZ.com](<a href=“Barbara Billingsley Dies”>Barbara Billingsley Dies)

** More links with more current photos of the Leave it to Beaver family http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101017/ap_on_en_tv/us_obit_barbara_billingsley_19

Aww. this actually makes me sad. I remember the beginning of Leave It to Beaver where she was in her pearls and they announced “Barbara Billingsley.” The good old days of black and white TV, one car families and Moms who hung out with the other moms on the block and waited for cocktail hour. My Mom was the neighborhood Avon lady with her permed hair and lipstick :)

Well, she was 94 years old. That’s a pretty good run. RIP.

RIP; I always liked her.

Vaguely remember her from LITB. But very fond memories of her from “Airplane” and I’ll bet that many of our kids will remember that scene, too.

I always liked her, too. She and Hugh Beaumont were ideal 50’s parents - so calm and witty, so adult. And you could imagine that they had a relationship apart from being parents, which is nice. She was certainly an icon and somehow those pearls were not at all silly on her, even when she was mopping the floor.

I loved June’s dresses.

“And, might I add, that’s certainly a lovely dress you are wearing today, Mrs. Cleaver.”

“Why, thank-you, Eddie…”

Eddie Haskell (Ken Osmond) became an LA police officer - now retired. Here’s a photo http://extras.mnginteractive.com/live/media/site200/2009/1007/20091007_061618_do08-dennis2.jpg

(Looks a little like Clinton!)

Of course, Barbara Billingsley was best known for being the first to EVER use racy language on TV when she uttered the famous line, “Ward, don’t you think you were a little rough on the Beaver last night…?”

LITB was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. RIP Barbara Billingsley.

My H worked with her on his first union project (way back in the 80’s). She was as sweet as pie. Kind, polite, nice and without any guile whatsoever. And FUNNY.
We adored her.

And now we have Richie’s dad, Mr. C, aka Mr. Cunningham (Tom Bosley) who has died. Maybe the two of them are having a blast in heaven together.

When I was a kid my brother and I had a standing joke–at the beginning of every show, they would announce “Barbara Billingsley, Hugh Baumont, Tony Dow, and Jerry Mathers as The Beaver.” My B and I would race to say this. If he said it first, he’d tease me “you don’t know that its Barbara Billingsley, Hugh Baumont, Tony Dow, and Jerry Mathers as The Beaver.” If I said it first, he’d pretend he didn’t hear me, but then say "I know you didn’t say “Barbara Billingsley, Hugh Baumont, Tony Dow, and Jerry Mathers as The Beaver” because you don’t know it. It would drive me crazy!

The day Barbara Billingsley died, I got an email with a cryptic title from my brother – LITB. When I opened it, it said “Barbara Billingsley, Hugh Baumont, Tony Dow, and Jerry Mathers as The Beaver. See-you don’t know it.”

Ah, the memories of childhood!

If you’re feeling nostalgic and are in LA you could eat at ‘Billingsley’s’ -

Not sure why CBS News last night made more of Tom Bosley’s career and less of her’s. Was more cited over the weekend, maybe? If not, sexism is still alive and well.

Another actor from my childhood died this week, too – “Boy”, Tarzan’s son. Johnny Sheffield was 79. He was one of my favorites when I was little.

MomOf3, that’s so sweet. Musicamusica, saw Jerry Mathers talking about her and also said how sweet she was. Interesting link about the restaurant, ucsducladad. redbluegoldfreen, Not sure it’s sexism, seems alot of times it’s about the timing of the death. patsmom, I really liked Johnny Sheffield too. Interesting to see some of his positive memories of Johnny Weismuller. I believe they both died at age 79.
