<p>As of September we will not have a child within 2,000 miles of us (one in college, one graduated and in the working world). I recall seeing something in this forum regarding last minute air travel but I could not find the thread.</p>
<p>We have the flexibility to travel with very little notice. Is there some way to get on an email notification list where there are super bargain airfares available at the last minute? I would think it is luck of the draw as far as destinations available…are these normally round trip offerings?</p>
<p>Since we are in the Bay Area we can reasonably fly out of 3 or 4 different airports. Seems like a neat way to vist kids or see a new part of the country on the cheap.</p>

<p>You can sign up for email, “like” them on Facebook and get deals in your newsfeed, or subscribe to their twitter feed. They’ll tweet really great deals that are valid for just a few hours.</p>
<p>I haven’t tried it lately but some airlines used to have a way you could sign up for last minute getaway deals where they send you an alert. you might want to try that with a few airlines.</p>

<p>I did happen to talk to someone from Cali today about colleges out there and I am looking forward to exploring some of your fair cities on grad school tours. </p>
<p>What about driving down to La Jolla or up to Santa Cruz, or even up to Portland or Seattle?</p>
<p>I would recommend a trip to the San Juan Islands for a whale watching cruise for orcas.</p>
<p>and/or I wonder how you get good at getting bumped. Let’s say you book a flight, and you know/think it will be overbooked, and the airline is looking for people who are willing to forgo the flight for travel vouchers. D and I got bumped from our flight to Atlanta, and we got the equivalent of 4 round trips to any destination in the US. </p>
<p>I mean, you have the time – use it to save money.</p>
