Barnard ED 2024

has anyone here submitted yet?

To everyone wondering, there is only 2 supplements now. And also supplements can be submitted after you submit your common app! Idk how many people that would help. I’m so scared! I just submitted a couple days ago but I’m still perfecting my supplements.

To everyone who reads this, I hope you have a wonderful week.
I am curious to know what other majors can a student at Barnard pick besides what’s listed on their site. For example, if you click on the drop-down view under physics, it’s said that there is a possibility for you to major in engineering physics and even astrophysics. But this was not listed separately. Are there any other majors offered like these that stem out of a specific subject? If a student is allowed to design her own major, do you know of such cases that you can share?
Also, Is anybody considering doing double majors? From what I learned there is a limit of credits you can earn per semester. Keeping that in mind, is it possible for a student to graduate in four years with dual majors?

@Cheekoo33 im a current senior at Barnard who can answer a few of these.
Most majors have ones that stem out of the same subject; very few are simply one major. For example, I’m a mathematical sciences major which is under the mathematics department and while there is simply a mathematics major, there’s also applied mathematics, math science, math stats, and math computer science. I’ve also heard that if Barnard doesn’t have a major but Columbia does, there’s some sort of way to do the Columbia major, but I don’t know much about that.
I also know that it is possible to design your own major, but I’ve heard it’s a pretty involved process and the people responsible for approving those really discourage people designing their own majors. I’ve heard of people doing it for linguistics mostly, also I think someone did it for IT.
Regarding credit limits, there is a limit of 19 credits per semester that each student can take that was just instated this semester. However, it doesn’t mean that you can’t take more than 19 credits. But you do need to get advisor and possibly your class dean’s approval to take more than 19 credits. And you need to have a good reason. I believe that double majoring is considered a good reason to take more, so you shouldn’t have too many issues with it.

did my interview on campus in july when i went there for barnard pre-college. submitted my application over the weekend. it’s just the waiting game now…

good luck to everyone applying! it seems like it’ll be an even more competitive year than the last. x

Hey everyone,

I’ve been watching this thread for the past few weeks. I just wanted to say good luck. I’m still working on my application, but congratulations to everyone who turned theirs in. I’m so nervous I keep looking over my essay and my supplements.

As other seniors ready to hit “submit” on their first application(s) through Common Application please remember to double-check your submission. You may do this a number of ways.

-Common App lets you print preview before you hit SEND. There will be an option through “Review & Submit” tab in the My Colleges section. Use this feature!

-Have another set of eyes look over your application before you submit…like one of your parents.

-Remember, before an application is considered complete, you must submit the application, the supplement, and pay the application fee. (Barnard accepts self-reported test scores so you don’t need to send your official test scores.)

-Always save a PDF copy of your application or a printed copy of your application in the event of emergency computer-meltdown!

Again, once you have submitted your first Common Application, be on the lookout for an email confirmation from both the Common App AND the college to which you applied confirming receipt of your application.

Just submitted! Nothing we can do now but wait and go with the flow. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE <3

just submitted :):):):):):)

Is anyone else having difficulty accessing their applicant portal? When they initially sent me the link, I used the temporary PIN to set a password, briefly looked over the account, and logged out, but I later attempted to log in again and that password didn’t work. I’ve reset it numerous times (using the same password) but it doesn’t have any effect.

Hello everyone!! Submitted my ED app last week and wondering what my chances are, really love Barnard and hope to get in!

Everyone is wondering about that! November 1st for December 1x is only about 6 weeks , and it is a long time to feel like someone is sitting in judgment over you. It looks like you are an ambitious student who is working on forging a path. You’ve got this. It is hard to tell, with acceptance rates so low. In the meantime, seek out some other schools that would be a good fit for you. You can get those other applications ready. Do you need some help thinking about a college list?

Thank you so much! It really is a lot of help getting some wonderful reassurance! I am also applying to Wesleyan and Vassar, NYU, Boston University and I have applied EA to Rutgers New Brunswick. I actually really like Rutgers even though for me it is kind of a safety, I know a lot of people who went there and it offers amazing resources!

You are on top of this! You have a reasonable plan and you are taking action! Rinse and repeat ! It sounds like you are ready for the added freedom and opportunity of college!

Hey guys! Does anyone know the day ED decisions come out? I’ve tried researching but all I can find is “mid-December”. Wishing the best of luck to everyone!!

The decisions for the past three years have come out the evening of the Wednesday before the 15th of December. One month a way. It is a long month to wait.

Hey you guys. I have one more question. As an intl student, im in the A’level program at my school. Im only allowed to appear for three subjects’ examinations thou. I chose physics, math, and chemistry at the start of the year and reported these on my app. But i have been taking english language classes as well. But since i can only appear for three subjects, i am inclined towards switching chem with eng. Is this going to affect my app in a bad way?

Unless you have a really compelling reason, I’d stick with what you reported. Maths, Physics, and Chemistry are a common grouping for A-Levels. Unlike advice given to US students, there is no expectation that students taking A-Levels need a balance between STEM and humanities.

Has anyone submitted quarter or trimester grades ?

Thank you so much for responding. Just wanted to switch because eng language is comparatively easier than chemistry and my future prospect doesnt have anything to do with chemistry either. Eng will help me in writing papers etc
