Barnard, UCLA, Cal, U Chicago, others for humanities / language student

Hi! I feel blessed to have gotten into some very good schools but also crushed after being rejected from the ivies I applied to. My school is competitive and I keep joking that I will go to the college with the best reputation and/or the lowest acceptance rate…but I’m just joking, right?

Anyway, I’m in desperate need of YOUR advice on the following choices. I’m interested in humanities (writing, history) and languages (French, Arabic), possibly as an international relations major. I’m passionate about women’s rights and social justice. I want to be in a city among diverse students.

Here are my options:

Barnard
UCLA
McGill
U of Edinburgh
King’s College London
Tufts
Carnegie Mellon
Pomona (waitlist)
UC Berkeley (waitlist)
U Chicago (waitlist)

I believe Tufts is particularly strong in languages (Arabic especially–I know of a current Tufts Fulbright scholar abroad in the Middle East who may be majoring in Arabic/ IR) as well as IR, of course. Humanities ain’t too shabby there, either. And given your particular leanings plus interest in an urban/ diverse environment, I think Tufts is an ideal fit. A wonderful culture of acceptance, passion for causes, academic rigor, reputation, etc.
