in the barnard waitlist guidance email they say that they hope to be able to admit students from the waitlist. so hopefully they do pull up people. fingercrossed
I believe you are looking at the data without factoring in the 60+% of ED accepted students that have close to a 100% attendance rate - so the RD pool will be smaller and you need to subtract out the estimated ED spots taken to get an idea of RD yield…I think.
I recommend against attempting that kind of math, because the “acceptance rate” will not be the same for the same class, depending on when it’s calculated.
Per example - matching the “Spring” article you cited, here the same from the year prior:
Which would give you 6.5% of 11,803 = 767 admitted for 2027
vs. 7% of 11,832 = 828 admitted for 2028.
However, the data published in the Fall (the “Class of 20xx Profile”) will cite different numbers.
Basically, I would caution to assume that Barnard is substantially changing class sizes, or number of admitted students. In the CoViD years, and the first “test optional” years there had been unknowns to them.
If enough admitted students had already notified them in the past week or two, that they committed elsewhere, they would try to “firm up” their waitlist and already reach out to a few candidates to make sure they are “definites”. You’d expect most movement later this week, and then again 2 or 3 weeks later, when some who had been invited off the waitlist, decided to stay where else they had already accepted.
The longer they allow things to drag after 5/1 the less likely someone will still ‘switch’, so they are likely to do personal outreaches (phone/email) to test the water with a person, before they even extend an offer.
yes exactly. ofc i’m also hoping they pull a bunch of ppl off the waitlist, but I think Barnard accepted a lot of people ED this year which lowers the amount of spots they have to fill with RD/waitlist applicants
my hypothesis is that the waitlist decisions will come out later this week (thurs/fri). last year when they announced to their waitlisters, it was april 28th and that was a friday. this year, april 28th was a sunday for us so this could mean they need a few more days in office during the weekday to reconvene and then decide as they don’t work on weekends
I agree-if we see any movement this week I’d expect it to be starting Wednesday-Friday bc last year and the year before the 28th was thurs or friday
I just want to hear back so badly!
Did Barnard move back their SIR date from May 1? If they didn’t, then I’m unsure as to why their waitlist acceptance is pushed back.
i’ve been wondering this too! i thought barnard would be contacting waitlist students before may 1
I think what @jumpingcarrots2024 speculated may be right. They may still be weighing numbers since they probably weren’t open over the weekend, so we might start hearing back starting tomorrow and throughout the end of the week. But of course, there’s a chance we may not and they may wait until after May 1st (so mostly beginning next week)
Keep in mind, that only a tiny fraction of waitlisted young women are on this board (or similar platforms). It’s entirely possible that a college could have been in touch with applicants, just not anyone here.
Perhaps the Columbia campus being closed to all “non-essential personnel” might be impacting things?
You are correct. I just assumed that there are many more watchers than commenters, and the watchers would say something if movement happened, as happens on most threads. But definitely something we need to take into account!
I didn’t think about that. That’s definitely a factor.
Ugh im getting discouraged by the wait but it’s hard to mentally move on when this is my dream schoollll
ur not the only one!! Lets wait and pray together ;_;
I wonder if Barnard is waiting for the campus battles to quiet down before they offer spots.
it’s officially decision day so i think this means colleges should start pulling from their waitlists soon!! good luck guys
has anyone heard of anyone getting off yet? or gotten any emails suggesting there is movement? happy may 1…
nopeee…
