Barrons 12 sat practices misleading?

I just bought the barrons book (the fat one with 12 tests published in 2004) in an effort to attempt at the formidable 2400.

In may I received

math: 800
verbal : 800
writing: 740

On the first practice test i received

math: 760 (this actually seems easier tha the actual test. i was a bit careless and rusty)
verbal : 650 (hmm this is not normal -.-)
writing: 710 (there are prob like 0-1 e in the entire test…very different fro the actual test)

my biggest complaint is that the verbal section is way too subjective/ambiguous! (i will add some examples later)

anyone with similar views?
