Barron's and Cliff's AP Biology Practice Tests

Those who have these books, are the practice tests in these books accurate?

Also does anyone have a CollegeBoard released test for the 2013 updated test?

The practice test are accurate (Barron’s is harder than the real thing, since Barron’s has a track record of being harder) but have u noticed that there’s no way to get an actual score for your exam … That fustrates me lol

I believe that the cutoff for the past years was 65-70%. But with the new format, no one can predict what the curve will be…

I hope it’s the most lenient curve they ever gave ! :D

One would assume the curve on this test will be lenient. But as my AP Biology teacher pointed out when I asked her about this, even though this is a baseline year, the curve might not be lenient at all - maybe even harder, since the College Board has provided teachers with far more comprehensive and detailed outlines and material before. And on top of that, the exam got a whole lot “easier” (even though CollegeBoard doesn’t want to phrase it that way). I’m expecting the multiple choice to be concept based and easier, and the free response to involve more memorization and more difficult.

Keep in mind you should have a basic knowledge of Statistics for this exam. My teacher noted we will have to know Statistics basics such as chi-squared, null-hypothesis, line of best fit, etc. for this test.

This site is very useful for practice test scoring [AP Pass - AP Biology Calculator](AP Biology Test Score Calculator - AP Pass) Very accurate.

Also, Cliffs has the best practice tests. I used them two years ago (with the old format, of course), and my practice test score matched my real score (5). the questions were also similar

@risubu That calculator is no longer accurate, because CB has redesigned both the curriculum and the test. The new test has a different number of MC and FR questions.

My teacher gave us two practice exams, one in the old format and one in the new format. (I think both were released by CB, so they might be online somewhere…) They are quite different.

On the new exam MC, there are fewer topics (no human body, fewer plant stuff, etc) and there was also more reading to do; each problem has a few sentences of related info (which I felt was just background info, not really necessary to answer the question) before it gets to the actual question. My teacher even said that she felt most of the questions could be answered with only common sense and very little knowledge of biology…

Th new FRQ format is also different. There are two long questions, kinda like the old format’s questions with multiple subsections on one topic. Then there are also six shorter questions, each of which will be like ONE subsection of a topic. So I guess more topics can be covered.

My bio teacher told us the 5 is 74-124 (idk if it was 124 I just remember focusing on the 74 cause that’s probably the most reasonable I can aim for ahaha).
She gave us the practice exam released by collegeboard especially for teachers only. Yeah, there’s a lot of reading. But I learned that it’s better to read the question and then skim the paragraph of information for key details. The practice MC+FRQ in Collegeboard’s course description has the questions and FRQ just not all of them if you didn’t look at it already.

On the CD for the new Barrons there was a grading system. Apparently, for them, you have to get 87% and up to get a five…
That equates to less than 8 wrong on the mult choice. Not so sure with the short response, though.

Can anyone post some sort of link to a practice AP Biology practice test link?

@thisisaduck That’s insane, are you sure that’s right??? Surely the curve can’t be that difficult.
