Barrons pg 314 #51

This question is about improving paragraphs. I need major help with one of the answer choices.

(This choice is a sentence.)
(B) Or will technology aid people in creating a trap for themselves that they cannot escape; for example, the world in 1984?

The explanation for the incorrectness of the sentence is because there is wrong use of a semi-colon. The material after the semi-colon is a sentence fragment. I am having trouble understanding why the material after the semi-colon is a sentence fragment. Please explain!!! From what I know, the material after the semi-colon has a subject which is “the world in 1984” and a verb which is “in”

Thanks!

In isnt a verb, its a preposition.

What’s a preposition?

A preposition is something that links verbs and other phrases in a sentence (in, on, during, to). “IN” isn’t an action. The “in” links the world and a time period

“For example, the world in 1984,” with or without the question mark, isn’t a sentence

So you’re saying that the sentence is a fragment because it has no verb?
