<p>I have always hated the Yankees. I always root against them. Now that they are playing the Tigers, I have two reasons be against them, in that I live in the Detroit area (although I have always been a Red Sox fan).</p>

<p>Now I have one reason to be a Tigers fan. :)</p>
<p>If you think hating the Yankees is tough in Detroit, trying doing it in North Jersey. Let’s Go Mets!!!</p>
<p>(I went to school in Michigan, and I would love to see a Detroit/Mets World Series.)</p>
<p>As a side note, I have tickets to the fifth game of the NLDS, so I am in the uncomfortable position of needing a couple losses in order to see a playoff game. :/</p>

<p>As a fellow Red Sox fan, I have reason to root against the Yanks, Mets (1986!) and Cardinals (1967). Too bad the Reds (1975) didn’t make it, so I could root against them too.</p>
<p>Like to see a CaliWorld Series: San Diego vs. Oakland.</p>
<p>M&S–I understand the feelings, but I must tell you that this Mets fan (and all the ones I know) were rooting mightily for the Red Sox in 04!</p>

<p>I grew up in NJ a Mets fan (you should have seen the walls of my bedroom in '69! I still have a scrapbook with all the articles from the Courier News from the run-up to the playoffs). I left for college and a job in DC, and morphed into a Yankees fan. Here in CA, it’s tough to be either. I’m hoping there’s an OAK-NYY AL Division series so I can go to some games!</p>
<p>Don’t count the Twins out. They seem to be having somewhat of a miracle season. Has the feel of 1987 and 1991. The players had their bags on the bus ready to go to NY Sunday, when the Tigers lost giving them the division championship.</p>
<p>I grew up as an avid Tiger fan with Al Kaline, Rocky Colivito, Willie Horton, Norm Cash, etc. One of my favorites was Frank Larry, known as the Yankee Killer for his record against the Yankees, which, while the term was not yet known, would truly have been considered “the evil empire” to all Michigan kids. I used to listen to all of the Tiger games on my 6 transistor radio hidden under my pillow so my parents wouldn’t know that I was still awake. I kept track of their statistics on a chart that I put on the wall next to my bed.</p>
<p>However, after moving to the NYC area after college, I tried to maintain my Tiger roots but it was hard when the only games that you could see on TV were when they played the Yankees (and also because they truly traveled through the abyss for so many of those years.) I finally became a baseball agnostic and never even followed it.</p>
<p>However, my son grew up as a Yankee fan and just this past season I started to pay attention to baseball again and decided to give the Yankees a chance. After getting to see them a number of times, I began liking them. However, it was during their first series with the Tigers that I had realized that I had truly gone to the dark side - I found myself rooting for the Yankees over the Tigers!!! So, tonight I will put on my Darth Vader helmet and root for the Yankees over Detroit. Go Yankees!!!</p>

<p>Hearing the A’s in today’s game sent me back to the time when I spent my fair share of afternoons in the centerfield bleachers - Joe Rudi, Reggie Jackson, Campy Campaneris, Sal Bando, Geno Tenace… Rollie Fingers, Vida Blue, Catfish Hunter, Blue Moon Odom.</p>
<p>Do I have to straighten up and enter the 21st century? Or can I stay stuck in my time warp?</p>

<p>Well, UMDAD, I may have been in California for the 1970-something A’s, but I was firmly ensconced in Boston for the year of The Impossible Dream. Even though I had a mad crush on Jim Lonborg, I’d have to cheat and google for the catcher, so you can collect from me as well.</p>
<p>I am bleeding “Dodger blue” here (hence the name) and planning for them to whip the Mets…
DD, who just started school in Boston, is crying big-ol’ Red Sox tears already. Amazing that she has only lived in Boston for a month and is moaning about the season-ending collapse of “her” team. What is it about those Sox anyway???</p>

<p>I was six that summer, having just moved here from England. Apartment complex in Peabody, MA was full of Red Sox players. My mom had breakfast and tea regularly with the wives of Mike Andrews, Jose Tartabul and Galen Cisco. I played with their kids. Still have vivid memories of those times.</p>
<p>There are some very unhappy Twins fans here in Minneapolis. My office even played the game today on big projector screen in our auditorium (large firm with about 600 employees). I wonder if they will spring for popcorn and beverages again tomorrow???</p>
<p>I am (and have always been) a Yankee, both by geography and loyalty. I do confess that some of my best friends are Red Sox fans - and we manage to get along fine despite our differences.</p>
<p>All I know is that I don’t get much accomplished during playoff season - it’s the only time of year that I try to watch all the games.</p>
