Hello,
I am a CA high-school Senior looking into attending Syracuse. I have a few questions about the college though. Foremost, how great is the financial aid? I am a Hispanic male from a 70,000 a year household, and hold a place in the top 10 percent of my high school class (18/650). I have an UW GPA of something like 3.8 and a W GPA of 4.33, my SAT wasn’t very good the first time (1760) but I am re-taking it in October and project to achieve between 2000 and 2100. So, would I get a decent amount of merit and need-based aid? Finally, just how bad is the weather at SU? I am one of the rare Southern Californians that enjoys the winter more than the summer, but I am unsure if going from a 40 degree winter (I live in a higher elevation city) to a -10 degree winter will be all that great. Thanks for any feedback!

Bump…

College board:
96% of need met
74% of FA are scholarships/grants
26% of FA are loans/jobs

Also, do you like snow, a lot of snow?

Again, 96% of need met AS THEY DEFINE YOUR NEED TO BE.

Private universities often use a number for your need that doesn’t come close to matching what you actually need. May not come close to your FAFSA need, for example.

That’s 96% of need met ON AVERAGE as they define need. I know students from our area who received less than 96% of need. Others received 100% of need. Depends how much the school wants you and wants to work with you.

Right hussonvalley51, my point is that your need is what they say your need is, not FAFSA or anything else. A few years ago, D had schools almost 20K apart regarding her need, even though they all received the same financial info from us.
