Basic info on colleges in Caliornia

As an international student I have trouble deciding which school to go to for my MBA degree. For now these are my options: SDSU, SFU, SFSU, Cal Poly, Cal State LA, UCSD, UC Davis.

I would appreciate if you help me out with some of the info on these schools.

UCSF is a medical university only.

I know I forgot to take it off my list.

Thank you

The websites have really good information. What is missing from the websites that you need information on?

Did you get into all of these schools already?

You are considering Business Administration?

You do realize that the majority of theses schools are California public universities? They don’t fund international students.

Yes websites provided me with informations I needed, I just wanted to hear from someone who has more expirience than me or was in a similar situation.

No, I´m taking my gmat next month so I´ll apply after I get results.

Yes, I´m considering Business Administration.

By don´t fund international students do you mean no scholarships for international students?

And also is it true that I only pay for one application fee for all cal state universities I apply to?

The application fees are $55 for each Cal State you apply to and $70 for each UC campus you apply.

Plan on taking out private loans. You will receive no Federal funding for your MBA as an International student.

Correct; you won’t receive scholarships because these schools are public universities with no monies for non-residents.

One of the schools on the OP’s list is “SFU”. Not sure what is meant by that, but maybe it is supposed to be the University of San Francisco (USF). If so, then USF is a private university that can offer financial aid to internationals. Note, however, that USF is not particularly wealthy and does not have a reputation for great financial aid.

All the rest are state universities (in either the CSU or UC systems). As noted previously, they don’t normally offer financial aid to non-residents.

i had no idea UCSD had an MBA program…

Have you been admitted to all of these schools?

If not, try that first, then pick.

My $.02: if you’re really looking for Cal State schools for business, I’d consider Long Beach and Fullerton way before CSULA.

Thanks but I´m planning to go without any loans, I´m just checking out stuff I´ve heard from people.

Yes they do and UCSD is high on my list .

They are all good schools - now all you gotta do is get admitted.

I’d think an MBA from a UC would be a lot more respected than one from a CSU. That said, I know the MBA program at SFSU is well regarded. Don’t really know about the other schools, except that my wife got an Economics degree from USF, and decided to go elsewhere for her MBA.

as someone who has been involved in the hiring of quite a few MBAs, the top 10 or so matter a lot, particularly right after earning the degree, beyond that, it matters a LOT less than you think. Any accredited school with a physical campus checks the box… n MBA from a top school checks a different box. Now, what have you done and how did you do it?

My personal experience with MBA’s from Davis wasn’t all that great. We were the world’s largest tech company and, they all seemed to be trained to be a CEO, not a mid level manager at a huge company, most left when they realized that that wasn’t going to happen. Grads from CSUs were a lot more realistic about their about their career potential and much better at getting things done - which is what it is all about at a big company. Give me a Sac State MBA all day long…

None of the schools on your list is going to change your life so, get into a couple, then pick one.

I can believe that. My wife’s MBA was all about starting and running a business, as opposed to being a middle manager in a company. I have a Masters in IE, and it was very oriented towards becoming a project or department manager at a big tech company.
