Basic SSAT questions

So what do people think about those students who have tested once and got around 90-ish all told on the test? Worth it to test again this year or not?

Assuming they could study further and get a higher score, but might have trouble finding a test site open and close enough to drive to, is it still worth it?

@thealternative Given Covid, a number of schools do seem to be open to accepting last year’s test score. The score is great; no need to try to improve on a 90. The bigger issue is that not all schools are test-flexible. Many require a current-year test, which is the standard in normal (non-covid) years of recent past. (Also, I’m assuming that test was upper level last year.)

@thealternative: Absolutely not.

The former dean of admissions at hotchkiss once told me it made absolutely no difference if a kid got an 85th percentile or 90th percentile score. I believe the schools want applicants to hit an approximate threshold (and a score in the 90th percentile hits that anywhere), and once they’ve done that, splitting hairs over a couple of percentile points gets you nowhere. Spend your energy elsewhere.

@cinnamon1212 Agree 100% if it’s a current score. But I understood that this was last year’s score, so definitely would want to confirm with each school on applicant’s list that this would be acceptable.

Also forgot to mention @thealternative – SSATs this year are being administered at home so driving wouldn’t be an issue. Don’t know if that helps, but wanted to point it out.

it’s a strange year!

@thealternative Assuming there was not a particular section that was less than 60-ish, there is no reason to retake the exam. Above about 85% checks the box for any BS and there is no increased chance of admission with a higher score.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts regarding my question!
