Basics To Improve SAT Score

Hey all. My name’s John, I’m 17 and just got my score back for the first SAT test I took. I took a practice in October through my school, got 1170. I spent about 2 months with a SAT tutor, Studypoint, and this most recent test in April I got a 1230! I am taking it again on June 3rd and want to be prepared for it because my goal was over a 1300.

I have some questions as well.

I signed up for the essay part as well. 1. is it too late to cancel the essay? and 2. how beneficial is the essay to me?

Also what are some ways to improve my score? Apparently there’s multiple approaches to SAT studying. My tutor went over just skills, like math skills, reading skills, and nonstop practice of the mini subjects. My friend told me his ACT tutor only taught him techniques, like tricks.

How can I improve my score better? I have a week, and I’m on summer break.
Here is my breakdown for the score:

What should I improve on and how??

I was thinking khan academy SAT review. Thanks!

I would suggest using khan academy, especially for math. As someone who rarely had trouble with time on the tests, I can say that tecniques really only matter if you consistently can’t finish all the problems. Focus on individual question types, and make sure you know how to answer them.

i don’t know all that much about the essay, other than only a few schools like to see that you’ve taken it. My guidance counselor told me that scores aren’t very important in admissions

If you have a school list you can check essay requirements here:

None of the colleges I want to get into require essay. I already paid for it… It’s a lot of stress and I think I would perform better on test without taking it with the essay. I might just ask and see if I don’t have to do it (despite the $12 fee)
