I read here
<a href=“Bates College - Sarah Connell - Google Books”>Bates College - Sarah Connell - Google Books;
that Bates’s Transfer Acceptance Rate is 3%. Is that true? (Do they really publish that?..if so, over what time period?)

hmmm…if you look at the numbers they accept 30 out of 162 or something, but only 17 of those 30 were attending, so that is about a 18% acceptance rate, with 10% overall acceptance (those who actually went). I dont know y they said 3%…I do not think that that is true

You must have also read that they received 162 applications and accepted 30 of them. That is a lot more than 3%. Whoever wrote this portion of the book was likely in a hurry, or made a simple mistake. The transfer rate is realy 18.5%.

The transfer rate of liberal arts colleges is typically very variable as it is very space-dependent. Whereas it is useful to approximate the general transfer rate of universities, most LACs vary significantly from year to year. For 2005, Bates had a 27% acceptance rate; I am not sure what it was last year and obviously no one knows what it will be this year (other than administrators or maybe current students with an idea of space). Considering the fact that more students are applying to top universities, it is likely that great schools that aren’t quite the cream of the crop (Bates included) will have lower transfer rates over the next few years.

Interesting, thanks
