I have a dark spot above my upper lip and visited a plastic surgery office for them to try to laser it.
Instead, I was upsold a series of 3-4 treatments. (I haven’t paid anything and can still cancel).
Has anyone had experience with a BBL laser treatment? How did your skin change? Have you repeated the treatment in years since the first treatment/series?

I had a procedure called IPL done on my face. I had a very ugly, bloody broken capillary that looked like I was hit in the face. Derm recommended IPL. The tech said that it can also take care of the dark age spots on my cheeks, but to get the desired results, three sessions were usually recommended. I gambled and wow, it worked! Dark spots and the evil capillaries are gone! I had it done 5 years ago, and the spots have not returned.
As I understand it, BBL is a more advanced version of IPL. I’d go for it.

Am I the only one who was thinking it was a Brazilian Butt Lift, with a laser?

I had a pretty large flat dark spot on my face and my derm used liquid nitrogen on it. Took a few days to scab up and fall off and a couple of weeks for the residual pink spot to completely fade. Cost $75. That was a couple of years ago and it hasn’t come back yet but I’m very diligent about daily vitamin C serum and good sunscreen now.

Laser-like treatments apparently stimulate collagen production in the skin improving its elasticity. Judging by my personal experience with IPL, it is not a far fetched thing.
Derm did that on a large brown spot on my hand and freezing it off left a scar, even putting that goop on repeatedly…scared to freeze off on my face. I’ll take brown spots over scars.

Interesting. Scarring is listed as a very rare risk (same with laser treatment). Ive had it done on two different spots and no residual mark. It’s a very common treatment for age spots (at derm offices), but I do know if you have darker skin tones it might not work as well and the risk of a permanent mark goes up.

Well, this was 20 years ago and was told it would leave no scar if I kept putting the goop on it daily, which I did. I’m a super pale irish girl, a few freckles but white as can get. Maybe it’s not called scaring but it was smooth as glass and whiter than my skin tone. Something clearly had been done to that spot, it stood out. Edit to say now that I look at it again, the brown spot is back, same shape but lightly brown, and it was completely gone, just bare looking skin.

Liquid nitrogen freezes skin off, but it doesn’t differentiate between spots or nearby tissue. It works like a burn. The so called “lasers” like BBL or IPL are different. The skin is given a jolt of energy stimulating regeneration processes. And these are not really lasers (a laser is a single wavelength light) but rather a very high intensity multi-wavelength light that is tuned to be predominantly absorbed by pigmented tissue. These treatments are also called photofacials. I’m not a fan of injecting anything into one’s face, but after reading up on these treatments I was sold.

No doubt that is true for the top layer of the skin, but the reason it is a long term or permanent fix is that it kills the melanocytes deep in the skin tissue.
This is helpful. I have a week to read more!

Yes, I think i will ask about the IPL when I have my derm appointment in October.
I’m scheduled for September, October and November. I think I will see if I can change it to October, November and December to stay out of the sun!
