BC CSOM Honors or ND

I have been accepted at both BC in the CSOM Honors proram and at Notre Dame.

Would appreciate any thought as I make my final decision.

Dear RFHM : BC CSOM Honors over Notre Dame … easily. Done.

Totally Agreed With Scott

What about UCSB honors vs BC?

BC CSOM is a four year program. ND business is a three year program that you apply to after freshman year. Given your acceptance into the CSOM Honors program, it’s safe to say you have the horsepower to be accepted as a sophomore at ND’s school of business.

As a BC CSOM grad, it pains me to say this, but the ND name has a bigger impact than BC. Both will give you a great education, but ND’s name may help you with that first set of job interviews. Good luck and Go Eagles.

Dear vinceh : Having spent twenty years in the financial sector in New York and Boston, hiring trends in my career do not back your Notre Dame name over Boston College.

Thanks. Why BC Honors over ND???

This is a really tough decision and we are leaning toward ND in spite of the fact that ND only gave us 15K in money and BC $23K

scottj,

I don’t doubt the influence of the BC name in Boston and New York. However, having worked around the country, (Chicago, Minneapolis, Dallas, et al), I feel comfortable in saying Notre Dame is a more recognizable name outside the Northeast Corridor. If RFMH plans on starting his career in New York , Boston or Washington DC, the BC network will serve him very well.

I attended BC and have never regretted the decision. My youngest son is starting the college search process and I hope that BC makes his final list.

Dear RFMH : Perhaps the exchange of views between vinceh and me has shed some light on the subject for you. The ultimate difference between Boston College and Notre Dame might come down to the area of the country in which you choose to work. My experience in the Northeast financial corridor suggests that BC/CSOM was a winner hands-down over Notre Dame in terms of recognition. Note that vinceh provides his experience through the midwest corridor in recommending Notre Dame. Rather than he-said/he-said arguments, we are likely both right in our assertions. At the end of the day, both schools are nationally recognized and there might be slightly more regional allegiance based on the school’s location and alumni network.

As for “why BC Honors over Notre Dame”, I purposely did not answer that question when you first posed the quandry. For me, location, CSOM/Honors and such were hands-down deciding factors. If you have not been to both schools and experienced both schools, my comments might not mean anything.

So, some homework for you to help you decide : Is an MBA in your future? Which school has better placements after a two year working period after your bachelor’s is awarded? Is a law degree in your future? If so, which school has better law school placements?

In the end game, these two schools are rivals, both steeped in their own traditions, and actually very much the same in many aspects. If you are leaning towards Notre Dame as per your note, you should be able to answer the question “why Notre Dame” … once you can answer that question, post your answers here and we will provide some counter point.

scottj,

Well said.

Thank you so much for you response

BC based on location.

You’re spending the next four years of your life in either South Bend or Chestnut Hill (which is right outside of Boston). That’s a terribly easy decision to make.
