Do you primarily come to CC to
- legitimately seek advice or find information about something you need help with?
or - legitimize choices you’ve already made, and seek validation?
Do you primarily come to CC to
I. Mostly this.
And a bit of this:
3. To waste time when my mind won’t shut off.
Neither. Some of us are in it to give advice. Or for lack of better things to occupy our time long after kid grown and gone.
Definitely #1.
1 and what @wis75 said.
1 definitely but it is easy to spot the CC’ers who come here for 2. They get mad when the comments do not support their already made decision.
Done with number 1 except to the extent that any of my nieces and nephews might ask for opinions. I got a lot of good advice here and it’s a large part of why my oldest went to Carnegie Mellon not Harvard. I’m mostly here for #3.
A bit of both.
One only. . I reaLly wasn’t ever looking for validation of my kids choices. Now I’m just looking for interesting things to talk about, find good shows to binge watch and follow the progesss of @romanigypsyeyes baby!
1, back in the day. Much more what @wis75 said for a lot of years now.
As both of my kids are finishing up grad school this year, I just come to hang out in the Parent Cafe, usually to learn a thing or two or talk about books, food, movies, sports, and cats.
Yes, to the benefits & fun to hanging out in the Parent Cafe.
Also, I like to share our story if I think it might help others. Paying it forward.
My son had already applied and chose his UG before I knew of CC. He may have picked differently
But we received so much help when he was applying to grad schools, and twice got caught in snow storms. People suggested he take the train south of NJ and catch a flight from there. Another time, Curmudgeon’s daughter offered him a place to sleep, but the school rearranged his interview. CCers suggested hotels by the philly airport.
For past few years, I read the wedding plans. I learned what to put in goody bags, and how to be a MOG. Fashion threads are helpful.
And I follow my fellow Romanian and smile with all of her news.
Neither 1 nor 2. Mostly I come to get and give advice related to things that have nothing to do with college. I do sometimes get on the forums related to my kids’ schools, but the youngest graduated in 2018, so my knowledge isn’t
so up to date.
Why do you ask?
Why is this a thread?
(Yes, there is a Why Is This A Thread" thread ? )
