I always liked her; I’m old enough to remember “Maude.” (I watched an episode with my son a year or so ago – boy, was it dated! But still pretty funny.) My son was a big fan of hers, and of “Golden Girls.”

So sad! Just in the last month or so, I’ve started watching reruns of Golden Girls. I could never figure out why my grandmother would laugh so hard at that show, and why I always thought it was so, well, blah. Now I know… most of the humor you have to be of a certain age to ‘get’.

Just a couple of weeks ago, while out for a birthday dinner with some friends, I mentioned how I knew I was getting older, because Golden Girls was appealing to me now. Bea Arthur was a phenomenal actress… and classy (in her own unique way!).

I was fortunate enough to see her and Angela Lansbury in “Mame” - it takes a special talent to steal (or even share) the spotlight from Lansbury, but she did it. “Bosom Buddies” is one of the funniest duets ever written for two women.

Thank goodness we have reruns of “Golden Girls” and will not lose that wonderful voice.
