Beat and worst companies for holiday shipping

I have been disappointed with a number of deliveries that have come from Amazon. In three instances, the driver just dropped a package on the front walk when it was raining or snowing and didn’t take it to the front porch which would have kept the package dry. In one instance, we were away overnight and the contents of the package (books) got very wet . (Amazon did replace the items.). I have since tried to leave directions to put stuff on the covered porch, but I don’t always seem to have this option with Amazon Prime deliveries. I never had problem with Amazon deliveries in the past. What’s happened?

Here’s an article from last year about what it is like delivering packages for amazon. It was very enlightening

I’d like to say that I am having no problems with packages this year. Things are being delivered on time and timely. On my porch where I’m ok weather or not they ring my doorbell. I am sure it’s because of my post office, ups and fedex drivers and not the companies sending my packages.

" never had problem with Amazon deliveries in the past. What’s happened?"

Amazon has changed how it delivers many packages, relying now on its own delivery system more and more. I do find that packages delivered by Amazon do get left by my garage door instead of front porch. Not necessarily a bad thing as most people exit and enter through their garages if you have an attached garage.

@deb922 - Thank you so much for that information! I saw the free 2 day shipping offer but was hesitant to duplicate the order if it meant paying a return fee. I’ve never heard of Happy Returns before. Found a place 2 miles from our home so I reordered her gift. I really didn’t want to have to pay the restocking fee when they had ample time to get the gift to me before Christmas.

Found a UPS box on the porch this morning as I left - no doorbell or other notification that the very large package was here

Zales is my loser so far. 12 days; today they created a shipping label…and it’s shipping from Canada.

Amazon has been later than 2 days on a few things. Just started getting some of theirs via Amazon Prime van. For me, Amazon has really upped the game for all other sellers. I love their communication and rapid delivery. They don’t knock; Fed Ex usually does.

Hate, hate, hate shippers passing stuff off to USPS-adds at least 2 days. I think they should have to state that upfront. UPS way better than Fed Ex Ground here.

Our package with 4 bottles of hummer syrup was chucked by the Amazon delivery dude over the construction fence next to the neighbors’ house which is under construction. I thought it was lost… reordered from Chewy… bliss. My hummers were fed and happy. Then the neighbors found (by now wet and disintegrated) package and got it to us. I ended up with sooo much syrup. Plenty for all feeders all winter long.

No issues: Costco and Nordstrom. And RealReal delivers quickly.

So, I have 4 items I’m tracking open on my laptop, keep refreshing a few time per day. Was 7 but 3 arrived today.

One is Fedex. It’s sitting 4 towns away. It’s been sitting there for 2 days. Supposedly it will be delivered on Monday but this evening this message shows up:

“Recommended action: No action required. Delivery will be re-scheduled when weather conditions improve.”

The weather is perfectly fine here. No issues at all. Ugh.

Today I got a 2nd one of something from JCrew that I only ordered one of. At first I thought I must have made a mistake and put it in my cart twice or something, but no. I’ll have to make sure I’m not charged twice and see about returning it. It’s a shirt for my husband and he doesn’t need two of the same thing.

Well…if we are talking about shipping companies…

The Amazon delivery guy rings our doorbell…and if we are here, fine. Otherwise, he leaves the packages in front of our garage…but so does USPS, UPS and FED Ex.

Biggest screw up this year but it turned out OK. Diamond earrings were mailed to me, extra insurance purchased which supposedly required my signature. Nope. USPS just put the little box in my mailbox…which is at the road, not hooked to my house. It was fine because I got it…but…

@thumper1 Yikes about the earrings! DHL brought a delivery for me yesterday and my husband went out on the porch to get it. Driver says we should just put a trash can labeled “DHL” at the base of our driveway 1/4 away and out of sight of our house. Husband nodded, said “Hmm, that’s a good idea,” walked inside and said “Hey, guess what’s not happening?”

Amazon prime has spoiled me with their next day delivery (I use my son’s account - I don’t have Prime). So I leisurely ordered a nightgown for my wife as a Christmas present, from Vermont Country Store. A couple of days later I checked/tracked the package to see when it would arrive… and it said, Saturday December 28… oops… so I printed out the tracking page, wrote a note on it, put it in a box, gift wrapped the box and put it under the tree.

Under Armour resent my sock order via USPS, It came in two days. The original package showed up via Fed Ex on Tuesday. I need to live chat with UA and see what they want sone with the extra set of socks.

Got all my packages in time but the range of delivery speed was wide. Amazon was super fast - agree they have spoiled us. LL Bean was also very good as they usually are. See’s was very slow but I think it was more Fedex’s fault. They wound up not being able to track an order that just showed pending for many days and wound up just issuing a replacement. The original order showed up on the 23rd and the replacement order arrived this morning.

Amazon was amazing (I use my daughter’s Prime account). Because they were so fast, I ended up ordering things I would usually go to Target for. I ordered from Nordstroms Thanksgiving weekend and then maybe a week later. The things I ordered later arrived before the earlier ones. I got an email that the item was shipped, but none of them showed up on the tracking app until the day they were delivered. I order quite a few things from Snapfish every year. Usually they are quite fast. This year my cards and my first order arrived very quickly, but later orders took a while and tracking was strange. I think they were shipped to the post office, and then it took several days to get to us.

I ordered a personalized birthday card from a site I use frequently. (greeting card universe) and while they shipped it promptly, USPS showed it “on its way” for several days and stuck somewhere in upstate NY. It looked like it was not going to arrive in time, and we were heading out of town. I sent a message to the company’s CS and they promptly offered to credit me for the order. Then the card arrived in time (though it took well over a week).

Other companies were slow (I had ordered a carry on bag from ebags but fchanged to J.c. penney b/c it ws much cheaper.) J.c. penney was very slow and then sent an email that said if ti was out of stock they’d cancel the order. WTH?? Fortunately it finally arrived.
