"Beautiful" - Carol King Broadway musical

The Beautiful storyline was serious (and interesting)… and the music was fantastic. So many familiar tunes, lots of fun dancing, plus a bit of humor too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aj_hjB3gm6c

We also saw Beautiful and really loved it. The night we were there people kept standing up and singing along. The ushers had to keep running down the aisles and reminding people it wasn’t a concert and to please sit down. I understand how they felt the urge to get up and dance and sing along though.

I am trying to get in to see Come From Away too after seeing the opening on the Tony’s. Just went this week and saw Kevin Kline in Present Laughter. It was very funny and he was fantastic.

Come From Away is definitely worth seeing. I saw it in DC and it was more than worth the price even though it was at Ford’s Theatre, which has possibly the most uncomfortable theatre seats in the world. (If Lincoln hadn’t gotten shot there, he might have died just from trying to get his butt out of his seat at the end of the show.)

@Marian - I laughed at your Ford’s Theater comment. It sounds like there are lots of interesting shows on Broadway. If we get back to NYC, I’ll have to come here for more updates

More Carole King info… .“Like” if you have (or had) the Tapestry album “…which topped the U.S. album chart for 15 weeks in 1971 and remained on the charts for more than six years…” Mine was probably purchased late 1970s?

lol, Tapestry was the first album I ever purchased and I played it to death! Knew every word to every song. Even as my memory skips these days, I hear one of the songs on Tapestry and I can still remember every word.

Was fortunate to see Beautiful twice. IIRC, the first time was pre-Broadway and quite good but a few tweaks were made and it was excellent when it came back to my hometown a couple years later.

DH and I will be in NY in October and have two free nights which means two plays. We can’t get tickets to Dear Evan Hansen, unfortunately, but did secure tickets for Come From Away. Don’t mean to derail the thread but if anyone wants to suggest another ‘can’t miss’ play for us, I’d love to hear.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have seen both Beautiful and Come From Away on Broadway - enjoyed them both very much!

@collage1 - we also saw the play Oslo, which won the Tony. It was a very long play (3 hours) and since it started at 8 pm it went past my typical bedtime, but it kept me very engaged.

I love hearing about the other shows too!
