Last month we were in NYC and had the opportunity to stand in line for discounted tickets both. Our first choice was “Beautiful”, and surprisingly when we got to TKTS at 5pm on a Friday they were available. DH and I both loved the show. It occurs to me that many of you in the Parent Cafe gang would probably like it too. So if you are headed to NYC… that’s my travel tip
D and I saw "Beautiful " two years ago in NYC. We both loved it and so has everyone else I know who has seen it.
H and I are waiting for the touring show to come to the venue near us. The venue had a cryptic message about their new season, so I am very hopeful it will be on the schedule. “Beautiful” is at the top of our list! Saw Carole and James Taylor in their Troubadour tour several years back and it was wonderful!
I saw it in London. We really enjoyed it, though the lead had difficulty hanging onto the Brooklyn accent throughout the show.
They just posted the new season schedule and “Beautiful” is on it!! So excited!
I saw this in NYC last August and loved it. I would have gone to see it again in Nashville in May if D & I hadn’t been squirreling funds for a Chicago Hamilton trip in early June.
We saw it two years ago also…and loved it.
This year, we saw On Your Feet…the Gloria Estafan story. Loved the music but the story line wasn’t as good as Beautiful.
TBH…the best music group story on Broadway was (in my opinion) Jersey Boys.
Anyway…yes…Beautiful was terrific!
Loved it. We saw it at the Kennedy Center in D.C.
I went to a show with a group that included women between the ages of 30 - 85 and everyone enjoyed it.
Beautiful is a fun show! A wonderful Canadian actor played the role of Carole King on Broadway for a couple of years and will be reprising her role on the tour’s Toronto stop. They want her to return to NY afterwards but she hasn’t decided yet if she will or not. There have been 2 or 3 other Canadians in the Broadway production, too.
We saw it in Baltimore, and thought it was very well done.
I got a discounted TKTS ticket to see it last June. It is good, but I left feeling kind of sad (her divorce and the fact that she didn’t get to perform most of her hits). My sister and I are going to NYC later this month and she wants to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Beautiful. I want to see School of Rock or Miss Saigon. Charlie didn’t get good reviews, so we’ll probably see Beautiful for her pick.
@toledo Skip those and see Come From Away. That is, if you can get tickets, which is doubtful this late.
I hadn’t heard of Come From Away until the Tony’s last weekend, but, if I were headed to NYC, that would be my pick for a show after what I saw and learned.
@2VU0609 It is a wonderful show. I admit I’m a bit biased as it was conceived of and written by friends of mine, but it truly is a special show. It has had sold out runs in La Jolla, Seattle, Toronto and D.C. prior to Broadway. And it has been very successful there with millions of dollars of advanced ticket sales. The story is a poignant one and the fact that it’s true makes it even more heartwarming, something the country needs now more than ever.
There is a tour starting in September so if it comes to a town near you, go and enjoy!
I saw it last night from Orchestra level Box Seats - I loved every minute of it! Enjoyed it especially since my kid used her student ID to get these (normally $165) tickets for $25 each!
I had no idea it was about 9/11 until I watched the Tony’s. Thanks for the suggestion, as it sounds like a show both my sister and I would enjoy.
Ooops! It’s sold out for the dates we’ll be there. I’ll have to put it on my list for next year.
My family loved Dear Evan Hansen.
A friend that Ialked to in NYC last month had seen Dear Evan Hansen the night before. She loved it and thought that is was perhaps the best show she’d ever seen.
@toledo Yes, definitely put Come From Away on your list. Its great success makes it this season’s Hamilton and as I said, a tour will start in September and, if you’re anywhere near Toronto, a sit down production will begin in February 2018.
