Beauty tips!

I want to report back that Clinique Lash Power Mascara Long-Wearing Formula survived graduation without any smudging or raccoon eyes. I was out in 88 degrees and full sun for over 3 hours and my make-up melted away, but my mascara was perfect.

My mother has had cracking/rash on the edges of her lips/skin. She started rubbing castor oil onto the skin, and the cracking has completely cleared up.

I’ve started following a Korean skin care regime, and the results have been favorably noticeable! Double cleansing (oil cleanser followed by gel cleanser), toner (makes my face feel “polished” after the cleansing), serums (vitamin C, hyaluronic acid), retinol cream (at night), moisturizing cream, and a good SPF during the day. Plus a sheet mask a few times a week. I suppose this takes an additional 10 minutes in the morning, and I usually do the night stuff while I’m watching TV. The tricky part is making sure nothing in my morning cream conflicts with the vitamin C.

what products are you using @fireflyscout

My primary care physician suggested that the “adult acne” I’m getting all over my chin/mouth might be perioral dermatitis instead. So, I’m not sure if certain products (IT cc cream & IT bye bye redness) are making it worse, or if it’s hormones, or some other sensitivity (or, “all of the above”). I started to read up on PD, got overwhelmed, and went out in the garden instead.

I LOVE the Clinique Lash Power mascara.

Cracking at corners of mouth are sign of Vit B deficiency. Really makes a difference to take extra vitamins.

More of a recycling tip–use old eye shadow and blush for scrap booking. Works great for cards. Not sure it’s archival but short term use is great!

I just popped into a Benefit retail store and got my lashes tinted and my brows tinted - the brows a lot darker than I normally would. (I have light brown hair.)
I have a fairly distinctive eye color (blue-green, but color changes with what I wear) and the darker brows really are making my eyes pop! I’ll definitely redo this darker brow color.

@mumz14 - I’m using a variety of products. Currently, O Hui Miracle Moisture oil cleanser, a gentle gel cleanser form Whole Foods (can’t remember brand), Paula’s Choice toner, Paula’s Choice C15 booster serum, Mizon Hyaluronic Acid, ROC retinol cream, Cremorlab mineral treatment essence (not sure if that’s doing anything, though), CeraVe PM cream, Mizon black all in one snail cream (snails are big in Korean skin care!), and sometimes LaNeige water sleeping mask (Target carries LaNeige products). I’m playing around with a few other products, such as eye cream, trying to find something worth the cost. My favorite sheet masks are Benton’s Snail Bee High Content Mask.

You can spend a small fortune on some brands/products, but I don’t think that’s necessary for good results. You can use coconut oil or olive oil for the oil cleanser. You can make your own vitamin C serum. Soak a Viva paper towel in green tea, slap it on your face for 20 minutes, and you’ve got a good mask. CeraVe makes excellent products for a reasonable cost.

Korean skin care is all about cleansing and layering. I find the steps very soothing.

What are you doing to make your own Vita C serum?

@fireflyscout

I am loving the hyaluronic acid. I use that plus argon and rose hip oils…mixed with some BB cream applied with a beauty blender for day wear.

I’m bumping up this thread to report on my eyelashes. I was using Boots Fanomenal lash serum, thinking it was doing a little something. I kept on, pretty much as a habit, and with the hot weather and school being out stopped wearing much makeup. I went to the eye doctor and she asked if I had been using Latisse. I said no, and her term for my lashes was “ridiculously long”. I didn’t really believe her until I got home and took a close look. They are way longer than they used to be. YMMV

Thanks for bumping…I’ve been using castor oil on my eyebrows…and I do believe they are filling in a bit. I’ve not regularly used it on my eyelashes because the few times I did it left things a bit goopy.

Ive,been using castor oil on my brows and eyelashes for about a month and I don’t see anything yet. I read it takes about 3 months, so I’ll report back. I’ll check out that other product if this doesn’t work.

I saw good results with Latisse on my eyebrows but not on my lashes.
I switched to the castor oil on my brows and so far there is new growth but not as much as the Latisse.
I am going to give it two more months before deciding.
Have not tried it on my eyelashes yet.

@mom2collegekids, I’ve thought of making my own vitamin c serum, too. It is very expensive to buy, and it goes bad quickly. If you make it yourself, it is very cheap, but there is an initial investment in equipment. The minimum amount you can make is more than you use before it goes bad. If I start doing this, I’ll share it with friends. And I’d like to use it on my arms, etc. It is really magic.

There’s a lot of information and recipes in the forums of a site called essentialday spa, and you can buy kits and equipment from lotioncrafters.

I’ve been using Rapid Lash daily for about 6 weeks now (although I admit that I forget every now and then) and I don’t see a difference in my lashes but I do see some growth on my brows. I think I’ll try castor oil and see how it compares. @conmama, how have you found it easiest to apply the castor oil? qtip? fingers? or ?

@collage1 …I just use a Qtip. At first I was getting it too thick. I now just lightly coat as close to the skin as I can on top of the lash line and not drippy. I’ll use the dry end and spread around. I then take the same Qtip, which still has plenty of oil and brush my lashes lightly with it.
