Beauty tips!

I recently bought rapid lash (from Costco–you get two for about the price of one elsewhere) but I haven’t started to use it yet. I think I read that it could be used on the brows too so that’s what I plan to try. Excited to hear good reviews here.

Still searching for an eyeliner pencil (navy) that doesn’t bleed below the eyes throughout the day. Would love to hear if anyone loves their eye pencil and it stays put on the lower eyelid/under the lower eyelashes. I did watch that Trish Mcevoy video posted upthread and they used a different technique that I do on my upper lashes. Will give that a try.

For those who wear foundation (I do), what do you find to be an effective make up remover? No matter what product I try, I still seem to end up with some on my white towel after washing my face and I don’t think I use all that much.

Thanks to the OP for starting this thread!

“Waterproof mascaras must be designed to be soluble in oil (rather than water), and so it makes sense that they would smear more from contact with skin oil. I’ve avoided waterproof mascara since then and had fewer problems.”

@NYMomof2 that’s brilliant-I don’t know why that didn’t occur to me but thank you-that makes perfect sense!

“They suggested “tubing” mascara and sent me home with this one from Trish McEvoy.”

@GRITS80 I’m going to try it-I ordered it from amazon yesterday and we’ll see how it goes. I also ordered the gel eyeliner from the same company-it claims it’s smudgeproof. We’ll see. I gagged at paying 30 bux for each, but I’m also really tired of throwing out $10 makeup, so maybe this is a good investment.

@1214mom I used to use box coloring on my hair, but as I got older (I’m 46 now) it just killed my hair so now I get my hair highlighted professionally every 8 weeks. Best money I’ve ever spent. My hair looks and feels better than it has since I was a teenager, and the blonde highlights perfectly cover the silver that is about 50% of my hair. My colorist uses the new oleo-based colors and my hair looks amazing and never comes out too red (think Jennifer anniston honey blonde).

When I go in to get my hair colored I have them do the “express” so I don’t have to pay for someone to take an hour to blow dry my hair-I’m just going to be up to my elbows in paint, clay, or this week a foam latex mold for casting, so it goes up in a bun anyway! Good way to save money.

@mcat2 she’s wearing lipstain and probably some eyeshadow, at the least.

“Also, do you think the girl in this video should use cosmetics daily? Or she is too young for this? (She is about to enter high school, maybe at the age of 16?) Her parent is actually a dermatologist (sp?) I think.”

I think cosmetic use is a personal choice. I don’t equate cosmetics with sexuality, though, so as long as you’re not making a ten year old look like a drag queen, I think it’s fine. The girl in the video is beautiful, although she looks really uncomfortable being stalked through the airport.

I’m VERY pale, and if I go out without any makeup (and I do), people ask me if I’m ill because I’m so pale, Like vampire pale with an olive undertone Addams Family pale, like always pick the palest color makeup and it’s still too orangey pale. Like I’m so happy to see the sun and get a careful tan because it means I get to pick a color two up from the palest face powder pale. :).

This is the Cover Girl mascara that is supposed to be a tubing mascara?

Just bought the cold castor oil at Whole Foods for $10 and the L,ordeal tubing mascara. Crossing fingers to lush lashes in the short term and nice ones with the oil.

For those who wear foundation (I do), what do you find to be an effective make up remover? No matter what product I try, I still seem to end up with some on my white towel after washing my face and I don’t think I use all that much.

I use Pond’s Original Cleansing Wipes to remove my make-up. Love, love, love them.

Midwest67, that looks like the one I bought based on an article I read on Google about drugstore brand tubing mascaras. Just put it on for the first time so I’ll know if it’s actually a tubing mascara when I wash it off tonight. Regular mascara dissolves in water and tubing mascara doesn’t. The little tubes slide off the lashes and stay pretty much whole. It looks like a lot of black fibers on the washcloth.

A general tip: makeupalley.com. They have what appear to be unbiased reviews of hundreds of beauty products and tools. You can filter the reviews by age, by average rating, or by number of reviews. If I’m looking for a new drugstore mascara or shampoo, I filter by number of review, and read reviews of the ones that have hundreds of them with a fairly high average rating.

^^yep, that’s the article I read. Found the Cover Girl one easily at the drugstore.

@MotherOfDragons,
Thanks for explanations. Agree that “she looks really uncomfortable being stalked through the airport.” I think the video recording was pre-arranged and OKed by her and her family, and she could no longer have a normal girl’s life anymore (in term of privacy), I guess. I only heard of her since the middle of this January. (BTW, she went through the airport just because she flied back to her home country to take a “middle school exit” test. She was not good enough in the language of her host country to pass the similar middle school graduation test because she has been there for 3 years or so only. I was originally from a nearby geological region so I know this.)

@deb922 you mentioned IT CC cream

I picked up sample from ulta today- excited to try, but looked super thick in store. Guess that provides coverage. Ultra salesperson said young women and older all love it, they sell lots.

The Cover girl mascara that was included in the article about tubing mascara (post #107) didn’t wash off in little tubes. It dissolved in water just like regular formulations. It did stay on pretty well, but I wouldn’t consider it a real tubing mascara. Dang.

I have never heard of IT cosmetics until this thread and this morning GMA had the company founder on with some models using their products in a 30 second get ready for the day segment. The CC cream mentioned by @deb922 was noted as a best seller. Looking forward to trying it.

I really like it cosmetics. I also use the bye bye under eye concealer.

The key for me with the cc cream (and the concealer) is to use very little. I put a dab on the back on my hand, dab on my face and blend with a brush or sponge.

I saw that segment on GMA also this morning.

I ordered the IT CC cream when it was first mentioned upthread. I’m looking forward to giving it a try.

I used the L’oreal tubing mascara this morning. Just one swipe made my lashes look better than my usual lengthening mascara. I forgot to curl them too, so will need to try that also.

The best way to spread tinted face products is by… using your fingers! Then, when you are done, instead of brushes, press your skin with the palms of your hands for 3-5 seconds. This sets the product in nicely and evenly. (A tip from books on French beauty tips. ).

What a coincidence about the IT cosmetics on GMA- thanks for mentioning this.
When I picked up a sample of the CC cream at Ulta yesterday, the experienced salesperson warned me it is a bit thick.
I guess a little goes a long way, and rubbing it on fingers first is important?
I haven’t used my sample yet -
