Beauty tips!

@mom2collegekids - I have been doing the castor oil on my lashes for about 6 months now. For me it works! Apply it with a q-tip at bedtime. The only issue I have is that is does tend to get in my eyes - it is a very thick oil. I like to watch a little CNN in bed before I go to sleep and find the oil on my lashes sometimes blurs my vision. So now I have to get up and put it on right before I sleep.

Blinc works–but it requires major work with eye make up remover to get it off. I started usung Latisse a few years ago and my eye lashes grew long and thick–I only need the smallest amount of mascara now.

I tend to break out where I’m getting coarse hairs growing in (upper lip, chin). Thank you, menopause! It is such a PIA to try to match concealers, BB creams, mineral powders…I own way too much product that doesn’t really work all that well. Looks great in dark room, but in bright sunlight? Good lord…

For a non-smear, easy to remove mascara, I highly recommend Clinique Lash Power. Also a fan of the RapidLash and RapidBrow products.

@HarvestMoon1 which castor oil product do you use? Just regular stuff from drug store? Or order off of Amazon? On amazon there are too many choices…don’t know which to try.

@GRITS80 Just a day or two ago, I first heard of “tubing mascara” and had no idea what they were talking about… In my naive head I was thinking, “uh, my mascara already comes in a tube.” Now, from your description, I understand. Wow, that’s pricey mascara. Are all tubing that expensive? I’ve already ordered that pricey Chanel eyeliner…lol.

Apparently the Clinique Lash Power that I recommended is a tubing mascara (and not expensive). Here’s an article with a long list of options: https://lauratipt.■■■■■■■■■■■■■/tag/complete-list-of-tube-mascaras/ The author of that article likes an Estee Lauder product.

I’d be interested in giving the castor oil a try, too. I had heard the latisse has a rare side effect of sight lost…

Has anyone here ever colored their hair, and wound up with something very different than the color on the box? I have been coloring my hair for 25+ years, and until a week ago, I never had a terrible experience. I have probably 99% gray hair. I have been using Wella, but decided to use Loreal because I liked the color “medium reddish brown.” (I used Loreal color for many years, but stopped maybe 5 years ago. I think I even used this color before).
When I got out of the shower after coloring my hair, my roots were new penny copper. The part away from the roots looks fine, but is much darker than my roots. Fortunately my hair is kind of puffy, and it’s not quite as bright as it was originally, but it’s pretty bright. Has anyone had a similar experience? I decided I’m going to live with it for a couple of weeks, but I may need to go to a professional to get my roots darker and the other part lighter. I don’t want to lay for color every three weeks though. I don’t really have any specific question I’m expecting help with. I guess this is just a venting session.

I wear only a little makeup (undereye coverup, powder on nose, blush, eye shadow). But I’ve thought of trying mascara again. Recommendations? I’m rather klutzy and usually prefer hypoallergenic products.

I stay away from anything marked red or warm. Sad to say, but the professional coloring is better color, and stays in that awful area around forehead. Mthat said, when I do my in between color, I have to mix medium and dark brown to get the most natural color.

My solution was to shift salons, just do,coloring, no blow outs.

@mom2collegekids - I just purchase castor oil off the shelf at either Whole Foods or my local drug store. I have had good luck with both the NOW brand and the Home Health brand. Both are very inexpensive.

@HarvestMoon1 Do you brush the castor oil on your lashes, or apply at the base, on the skin?

I just take a Q-tip and do the base of the lashes - along the eyelid line. I am sure some smudges on the lashes though.

Supposedly this is a tubing mascara

I’ve been using the Loreal for years because it is so easy. I love how it comes off in shower. I find I have to pull/wipe off when very wet. Tears and quick face wash doesn’t wash off the lashes. Years ago I used false lashes every day but stopped when I couldn’t find revlon wispy basic anymore.

Covergirl Professional Remarkable Washable Waterproof Mascara is supposed to be a drugstore brand tubing mascara. I just bought one but haven’t tried it yet. I really do like the Trish McEvoy but it is expensive. I know I will tire of paying that much so I’d love to find a cheaper version that works as well.

just ordered both from amazon

It seems there are makeup experts here. May I ask:

Do you think the young girl in this video has makeup? (I could not tell.)

Also, do you think the girl in this video should use cosmetics daily? Or she is too young for this? (She is about to enter high school, maybe at the age of 16?) Her parent is actually a dermatologist (sp?) I think.

This is the same girl with a lot of makeup:

If she applies the makeup every day like this, will she develop skin problems on her face?
