Beck: "Why Harvard Should Be Free"

[Commentary: Tax-free hypocrisy from higher education - CNN.com](Commentary: Tax-free hypocrisy from higher education - CNN.com)

His argument is quite lacking – there’s no mention AT ALL that for those who DEMONSTRATE financial need, that HYP practically makes it free.

Is Beck saying that the kids who get accepted whose family incomes are in the millions SHOULD pay nothing?

It’s just an article to be controversial and ATTEMPTS to demonstrate concern for the “average joe” but offers nothing in the real financial aid/college affordability debate.

If that’s Glenn Beck, it’s not even worth reading.

Glenn Beck is an uneducated, former drug addict, and a crazy mormon (no offense to mormons, he just happens to be crazy and conservitive). He gives CNN a bad name. Thats all for my anti-Glenn Beck ranting.

I think the reason why CNN hires conservatives like him (who are sufficiently lacking in logic) is so they can claim to be two-sided in terms of partisanship, when in reality, they’re just giving themselves a bad name. I remember I read an article a while ago by him, and one of his tips on helping the economy was to “start believing in a higher power”. It’s a load of idiocy. Avoid him.

^^Isn’t having more taxes on large corporations more of a liberal agenda?

Perhaps, Beck is taking this position because Harvard is viewed by some as a liberal stronghold, sort of a larger “Air America.”

Glenn is an idiot - at least for the news. Remember that most educated people aren’t that ■■■■■■■■. Many commentators make outrageous statements and articles just for the audience, and in private don’t really believe as strongly. I’m sure Glenn is the same - he espouses idiot-speak but is not really an idiot, but just does it to get the cash.

Glenn Beck’s an entertainer who isn’t well versed in any of the issues he discusses as a commentator. Ignore everything that comes out of his foolish mouth.

Glenn Beck was hired to attract conservatives to CNN.

The two major news networks never really provide much news. I like to read Wikinews, NPR, and listen to partisan radio shows to get all of the facts.

While the author sounds like a prick, and I dont know much about the tax situation, I have often asked myself why Harvard couldn’t afford to cover tuition for all of their students.

Could you imagine if Harvard began to cover student tuition like Olin, I imagine that admissions rates would go down below 5%.

They would probably get 100,000 applicants xD

1% admissions rate anyone …

Glenn Beck is a third-tier sensationalist. I mean, he’s not even successful at saying stupid things for a living like Ann Coulter or Bill O’Reilly.

Wow, I guess CC is full of liberals…

^ Not that there’s anything wrong with that. :)

Just curious, are there any specialty web forums that lean more conservative? I mean not including the ones labelled conservative.

You could always try politico…

But then again, most of those people aren’t even coherent enough to understand.

Haha. I’m not conservative, I just wonder if any non-politically themed forums lean conservative. Maybe some regional ones or something.

Haha, no offense to the conservatives, but liberals are much more likely to use the Internet for forums. I’ve found conservatives to be often… for a lack of a better term, ranty (although Liberals do it too, conservatives seem to do it far more. Maybe it’s the demographics… or the forums I visit) I punish myself too much :P

This is a forum about higher education. Specifically, elite higher education. I’d say it’s safe to generalize that CC leans left a bit.

That’s a gross underestimation.
