Become a coxswain?

I was wondering if it is possible to tryout for a DIII coxswain position? I’ve never done it before, but I really want to join a team. I’m 5’2" and 115lbs. I’ve played sports my whole life and I run about 3-6 miles every other day, so I’m in pretty good shape…

However, I’ve never rowed crew…

Thoughts?

Contact the coach of the crew team and ask.

It is worth a try! There are many opportunities for female rowers - even without rowing experience. Our DD walked on to a DI rowing team this fall. She did a rowing camp last summer to see if she liked it, but other than working out on a rowing machine as part of her ACL reconstruction rehab, she had no rowing experience whatsoever. The rest of her novice teammates are also athletes from a variety of sports. She loves it! There are fewer coxswain positions, but it is worth looking into. Good luck! Rowing is an amazing sport!
